In the serene landscapes of Manipur, a state known for its natural beauty and cultural diversity, a sinister incident has unfolded, leaving the nation in shock and disbelief. The grotesque act committed against innocent women in B. Phainom village has sent waves of horror and anger across the country.

The incident, which occurred on May 4, has taken an appalling turn. According to the complaint filed by Thangboi Vaiphei, the chief of B. Phainom village, a large group of men, predominantly from the Meitei community, descended upon the village with “sophisticated weapons.” These assailants looted homes, snatched valuables from villagers, and unleashed a ruthless spree of violence.
Fearing for their lives, five villagers sought refuge in the nearby forest, only to be pursued by the attackers. Tragically, one individual was killed on the spot while three defenseless women were subjected to a nightmarish fate. Forced to strip naked and enduring brutal gang rapes, these women were subjected to unimaginable cruelty in broad daylight. Amidst the chaos, the brother of one of the victims, heroically attempting to save his sister, met a tragic end, further adding to the heinousness of the crime.
