As this island nation treads the perilous path towards resembling a miniature version of Pakistan, even the newly crowned King himself seems to be blissfully unaware of the situation. It is, to say the least, horrible.
On the 6th of May 2023, Prince Charles was officially crowned as the King of the Great Britain, and whatever remains of the British Empire. Over 2300 dignitaries were a part of this event, and the event cost a huge amount to the British exchequer.

But how much did it cost? Officially, the cost of the entire King Charles Coronation is purported to be some 125 million dollars. Now such an amount cannot come straight from the heaven, a hole must have been burnt in the pocket of the British taxpayers. Likewise, for the public holiday on the 8th of May, an additional amount of 1.36 billion pounds have been splurged. This, when the British administration had claimed that the current coronation would be one of the most simplistic, as well as the least extravagant of the coronations known in the British history.

Apart from the same, many Christian intellectuals are enraged on the fact that Rishi Sunak, a “heathen” in their parlance [i.e., a non-Christian] would be reading portions from the Bible as an honour to the new King.
However, if we keep the Sunak issue aside, there is one that even the Buckingham Palace would find it hard to answer: what was the need of such expenditure? $ 125 million is not some pocket money, that you could splurge on chocolates of your choice. This is a significant amount, especially for a nation, which once claimed one fourth of the world’s total land.
Long story short, UK is in serious trouble. This is a serious matter for a country, which still hasn’t been able to recover from the menace of COVID 19 economically. UK is the only G 7 who continues to struggle with economic growth even today. In terms of cost of living, the country is facing one of its biggest crisis till date, with even rations at a premium.
