Bhimashankar Mahadev Temple is a very sacred pilgrimage site situated at a distance of about 100 kms from Pune in Maharashtra and about 223 kms from Mumbai. Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga is an attractive tourist destination situated in Bhorgiri village in the valley area of Sahyadri range. Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga, which is included in the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shankar, is also a pilgrimage site. Surrounded by the Bhimashankar hill, this scenic Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga is a beautified place with lush green valleys.
History of this Temple
According to a legend, the secret of the origin of Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga is believed to be from the river Bhima, which originated from the battle between Lord Shiva and the demon Tripurasura. Because of the Jyotirling located here, this place is considered one of the major sacred and scenic spots in India.
Bhimashankar Mahadev Temple is built in beautiful Nagada style of architecture can be seen in Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga, this style is a co-mixture of both new and old. The structure of Bhimashankar reflects the high quality of artistry done by the ancient Vishwakarma sculptors. Due to Bhimashankar Shankar Jyotirling Wildlife Sanctuary, it has become a center of attraction for tourists and tourists are drawn towards this charming scenic spot. The height of Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga is about 3250 feet above sea level.

Bhimashankar Mahadev Temple opens at 5:00 AM in the morning and close at 9:30 PM in the evening. Morning aarti is performed at 6:00 AM in the morning and evening aarti is performed at 8:00 PM in the evening.
