Rahul Gandhi in Cambridge: What’s the reason for discussing Rahul Gandhi today? Because he has chosen to pass out some very objectionable statements regarding the biggest democracy in the world and the oldest civilisation, that being India. What was the venue where he spoke? Yes, you have guessed it right; I am here to talk about Rahul Gandhi recent Cambridge lecture and why one should be conscious when talking about their country while being on foreign soil.
Rahul Gandhi is in Cambridge after his successful Bharat Jodo Yatra
It seems Congress has been roused from its slumber with the infamous Bharat Jodo Yatra, which began in September last year and went from Kerala to Kashmir. The Congress workers were out on the ground walking with Rahul Gandhi, and it’s being said that the yatra has achieved a lot, like changing the political landscape of the country, and was attended by prominent personalities.
Who were they? Former R&AW chief AS Daulat, former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan, Ravish Kumar, and Kamal Hasan, among others; not to forget the pastor with whom the Yatra kicked off, Pastor George Ponnaiah.
Well, the party may claim it a success. The fact of the matter is that Congress has lost states both during and after the yatra. The Yatra has ended and the election results show that it has failed to create any mark in the hearts of people, else the party would not have been decimated in North-East, once said to be its impregnable fortress.
After falling flat with the Yatra and not being able to take on the Modi government, Rahul Gandhi has chosen to go to a foreign land, give a lecture, and talk about everything, some of which exist and some of which don’t. And all of this can again be cumulatively called a failed attempt to launch an offensive against the Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the centre.

Indian democracy is under threat, says Rahul Gandhi
Rahul Gandhi delivered a lecture at Cambridge University on February 28 titled “Learning to Listen in the 21st Century.” So, what is being talked about in the lecture? Has Mr. Gandhi brought glory to the nation? Oh, that must be left to the athletes. Rahul Gandhi said in his lecture that “Indian democracy is under attack”.
Yes, you read it right! Rahul Gandhi said, and quote, “Indian Democracy is under pressure and under attack. The institutional framework which is required for a democracy… Parliament, free press, the judiciary, just the idea of mobilisation… These are all getting constrained. We are facing an attack on the basic structure of democracy.”
He did not stop here; he brought out the Indian constitution, saying that India is a union of states, and union requires negotiation and conversation. Quote, “It is that negotiation and conversation that is under attack and threat.” Well, if that was the case and there was no conversation happening, what did Rahul Gandhi do during his yatra?
The Gandhi scion also picked up the opposition’s favourite line that minorities and the press are under attack in India and said that “we are facing an attack on the basic structure of democracy.” Well, contrary to that, the Congress party has lost all the states with minority and tribal populations.

Rahul Gandhi brings out Pegasus in Cambridge and talks about China
No, it doesn’t end here. Guess what? A leader whom the grand old party claims to be its leader has said that he is being snooped upon in his own country. Yes, Rahul Gandhi brought up the issue of Pegasus and said that he, along with other opposition leaders, are being snooped on by the government in power. Pegasus is a matter upon which the apex court of India has already passed its judgments; probably, the Congress Party needs to go back and read the judgement once again.
Rahul Gandhi also showed his might in the field of foreign policy. He talked on “Two divergent perspectives of the US and China since World War II” and the “Imperative for a Global Conversation”. During his lecture, he heaped praise on China. One of the presentation slides shows him referring to China as a “force of nature” and an “aspiring superpower.”

The slide also mentioned the Belt and Road Initiative, which passes through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, which is an integral part of India. Now, here comes the contrary: in India, Rahul Gandhi keeps alleging that China is showing unnecessary border aggression, while at Cambridge, Rahul Gandhi has been seen heaping praises on the communist nation.
Here, I want to draw your attention towards a comparison. For Rahul Gandhi, the idea of India includes attacks on human rights and democracy, snooping on opposition parties, militancy, etc. while China comes across as a nation of harmony, force of nature, belt and road initiative, energy, and freedom.
