Reliance Industries has reintroduced Campa Cola, a retro soft drink that was popular in India in the past, in an attempt to compete with established brands like Coca-Cola and Pepsi. Indians preferred Campa Cola over the foreign brands for many years, and Reliance is hoping to rekindle customers’ nostalgia by offering the original Cola, lemon, and orange flavours. Reliance Retail, which purchased Campa Cola from the Pure Drinks Group for Rs. 22 crores, plans to expand its FMCG business. However, the question still stands: Will the Ambanis touches the sky with it or not.

How can Campa Cola be a success?
Campa Cola is a soft drink brand that was launched in the 1970s and was one of the most popular cola brands in India. The brand was discontinued in the late 2000s, and its fans were left disappointed. But now, with Reliance Industries’ entry into the FMCG sector, Campa Cola is back in the market.

However, brands like Parle, Paperboat, and Patanjali and others have carved out a sizable portion of the Indian beverage industry but still they are nowhere close to beverage giants like PepsiCo or Coca Cola.
But Reliance can compete with them because of their strong distribution methods and process. Having a steady flow of funds is crucial for the smooth functioning of any business, and many enterprises struggle to secure it, leading to their failure. However, Reliance Industries has reported a net worth of over 6.4 trillion Indian Rupees in 2022, indicating a strong and stable economy. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that Campa Cola will collapse due to financial problems.
Campa Cola’s performance in the past was influenced by a number of variables, including flavor, quality, packaging, and cost. Despite having a strong distribution network, Reliance faced difficulty in breaking into the market with its new offering. A challenge with Campa Cola may come from the shifting taste preferences of Indian customers and their propensity for healthier beverages.
