Bilaspur Naina Devi Temple – Guide

The temple of Shri Naina Devi Ji is situated on a hillock in the Bilaspur district of the state of Himachal Pradesh. Let us tell you that this temple is situated at an altitude of 1219 meters above sea level, which was built by Raja Bir Chand during the 8th century. This temple is known for many folklores after its construction. Shri Naina Devi is built on a triangular hill and is believed to be one of the 52 Shakti Peethas of Mata Sati. All the major festivals of Hindu mythology are celebrated with great enthusiasm in the temple.

History of this Temple

Talking about the history of Bilaspur Shri Naina Devi Temple, according to a legend, when Goddess Sati immolated herself in a yagya, Lord Shiva was distressed and carried the dead body of Sati on his shoulder. The Tandav dance had started, due to which all the gods were scared. After this everyone urged Lord Vishnu to stop them. After this Lord Vishnu fired his wheel which cut the body of Mata Sati into 51 pieces.

All the festivals of Hindu religion are celebrated with great pomp in the Naina Devi temple. The festival of Navratri is most prominent in this temple which is celebrated for 10 days in the temple in the form of a fair in the months of October-November, and Shri Maha Tara Jayanti is also celebrated here.

Bilaspur Naina Devi Temple is situated on the top of the hill which can be reached on foot or with the help of any vehicle. There is also a ropeway here which can be used to reach the hilltop. The idols of Lord Ganesha and Lord Hanuman are situated in the temple area.

Bilaspur Naina Devi Temple opens at 4:00 AM in the morning and close at 10:00 PM in the evening. Morning aarti is performed at 5:30 AM in the morning and evening aarti is performed at 8:00 PM in the evening.

Kahlur was known as a princely state during the British period. This is at a distance of few kms away from this temple.

Markandeya Rishi Temple

This temple is located at a distance of 20 km away from Bilaspur.

Bachhretu Fort

Bachhretu Fort is an ancient fort located in Bilaspur district which was built during the reign of Raja Ratan Chand of Bilaspur in the 14th century.

Laxmi Narayan Mandir

This temple is dedicated to lord Vishnu and Lakshmi. This temple is located near the bilaspur bus stop.

Koldam Dam

This dam is build on the river satluj. This is at a distance of 15 km away from this temple.

Nahar Singh Temple

This temple is dedicated to baba nahar singh. This temple is located at a distance of about few kms from naina devi temple.

Bhakra Nangal Dam

The Bhakra Nangal Dam is located in the village of Bhakra on the Sutlej River in the Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh. Bhakra Dam is 15 km from Nangal town.

Kandrour Bridge

This bridge is built over satluj river. This bridge is at a distance of about few kms from this temple.

Vyas Cave

The Vyas Cave, on the banks of the Sutlej River, is where sage Vyas, the author of the epic Mahabharata, lived here during his days of penance. This cave is at a distance of about few kms from this temple.

How to reach Bilaspur Naina Devi Temple

By Air- The nearest airport from Bilaspur Naina Devi Temple is Shimla airport which is at a distance of 124 km away from this temple. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services or taxi.

By Train- The nearest railway station from Bilaspur Naina Devi Temple is Kiratpur sahib railway station which is at a distance of about 94 km away from this temple. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services or taxi.

By Road- Roads to this temple are well connected with the other cities of the country so you can easily reach this temple by using your own vehicle or by any public buses or taxi from any part of the country.
