Kundalpur Jain Mandir – Guide
At a distance of 2 km from Nalanda University ruins, Kundalpur Digambar Jain Mandir is a sacred place located in Kundalpur near Nalanda, Bihar. Located just outside Nalanda, it is one of the important pilgrimage centres for Jains, and one of the must-visit places in Nalanda packages.
History of this Temple
Kundalpur is believed to be the birth place of Lord Mahavira, the 24th and last of the Jain Tirthankaras. Tirthankara Mahavira was born at this place about 2600 years ago. Mahavira’s father was King Siddhartha and his mother Trishala was the daughter of King Chetak of Vaishali.
Mahavira is believed to have spent their first 22 years of his life in Kundalpur. Also, it is also the birth place of Gautam Swamiji who was the first disciple of Lord Mahavira. Being the birthplace of Lord Mahavira, Kundalpur is an important pilgrimage site for Jain devotees.
A grand Kundalpur Jain Mandir with beautiful minarets has been built here to mark the birthplace with a four and a half feet high idol of Lord Mahavira in the Padmasana posture. This grand temple is very artistic, beautiful, indescribable and a sight to behold. There is an ancient chhatri outside the temple where the Charan images of Lord Mahavira are installed. There is a huge grand Kirti Stambha with 8 idols of Lord Mahavira.

Nalanda University
This university is located in Nalanda district of Bihar. Nalanda University is the know as the oldest university in the world. It was established in 450 AD by Kumar Gupta, the ruler of the Gupta dynasty. Most of the foreign students used to come here to study.
Pawapuri
Pawapuri is a pilgrimage centre for Jains. It is situated 25 km away from Nalanda. Lord Mahavira, the greatest preacher of Jainism and the last Tirthankar, gave his last sermon at Pawapuri.
Biharsharif
Biharsharif is the modern district headquarters of Nalanda district. Biharsharif is located 13 km away from Nalanda. Remnants of medieval Islamic architecture such as mausoleum, mosque, Gufkalin remains make their presence felt in this small town.
