The Thirunallar Saneeshwara Bhagavan Temple of Sri Darbaraneswarar in Tamil Nadu is one of the Navagrahas. The main deities of the temple are Lord Shiva, his consort Goddess Parvati and Lord Shani. In the Thirunallar temple, Lord Shiva is Darbaranesvara, while Goddess Parvathi is popular as Pranambika or Bogamartha Poona Moolayal.

History of this Temple
According to the history of Thirunallar Saneeshwara Bhagavan Temple, the famous King Nala and Queen Damayanti liked each other and got married. However, the deities wanted to marry Queen Damayanti. So after this marriage, the deities became angry and jealous of Nala. The deities approached Saneeswaran and asked him to help them.
But after seeing the couple, he decides to convince the Devas of Nala’s true love for their queen. Saneeswaran gave a lot of trouble to King Nal and finally, the king reached Thirunallaru. The king worshiped Lord Dharpaneshwar in this temple and hence the Lord freed him from curse and blame. Nala stayed for some time and built the temple. Later Nal got his kingdom back. The world Thirunallar is made up of two words – “Nala” meaning King Nala and “Aru” meaning “Heel” meaning the place of Nala.

By Road- The temple is 5 km from Karaikal bus stand and 22 km from Nagapattinam bus stand. You can easily reach this temple by using your own vehicle as its roads are well connected with the other cities of the country.
By Train- Nearest railway station is Karaikal. The easiest route from Chennai to Thirunallar is via Tindivanam, Pondicherry, Chidambaram, Tranquebar, Karaikal. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services.
