Srikalahasti Temple is a famous temple situated in the town of Srikalahasti. Srikalahasti, located in Chittoor district in the southeastern state of Andhra Pradesh, is often referred to as the holy city of southeast India because it is dedicated to Lord Shiva and has immense religious significance for Hindus.
History of this Temple
The Srikalahasti temple was built during the Pallava period in the 5th century. Some new structures were built at the temple during the reign of the Chola Empire during the 16th century and the Vijayanagara dynasty during the 16th century. The existence of the temple during the Tamil Sangam dynasty is mentioned in the works of Nakkerar, a Tamil poet.
This temple is known for worshiping Lord Shiva. Sri Kalahasti Temple is famous for the element Vayu(wind) and the other four Panchatattva which are Chidambaram (Space), Kanchipuram (Earth), Tiruvanikkaval (Water) and Tiruvannamalai (Fire). This temple is one of the few famous and revered religious places in the South. The recognition of Shri Kalahasti Temple is quite high among the devotees.
The Srikalahasti Temple, a beautiful illustration of the Dravidian style of architecture, which was built during the Pallava period in the 5th century. The temple complex is situated on a hill. The entrance to the temple complex faces south, while the main shrine faces west.
