The dual speaking Americans are at it again. They are re-entering the Indian sub-continent on the pretext of supporting Pakistan. For them, the defining line between a statesman and an experienced leader like Bilawal Bhutto has diminished. The Biden administration is NOW down to mollycoddling Bilawal.
US wants India and Pakistan to sort out issue
The United States has given its verdict on Bilawal Bhutto’s lies against PM Modi. Ned Price, spokesperson of US State Department, has termed India as “global strategic partner”. In the same vein, Price termed India’s relation with Pakistan as a deep partnership. Price was answering a question regarding Bilawal Bhutto’s childish rant against PM Modi at the UNSC.
Price also added that the USA would be more than willing to assist Pakistan and India for a dialogue. Underlining its importance, he said “The fact that we have partnerships with both countries leaves us not wanting to see a war of words between India and Pakistan. We would like to see a constructive dialogue between India and Pakistan. We think that is for the betterment of the Pakistani and Indian people. There is much work that we can do together bilaterally,”
Decoding the reason behind not speaking against Bilawal
“We have partnership with both countries”, that’s what Price said. Do you think it is an appropriate way to respond when the Prime Minister of the world’s largest democracy was subjected to a slanderous, preposterous, malicious, poorly intended and obviously laughable lie? It was such a ghastly statement by Bilawal that even people from opposition parties in India have asked Bilawal Bhutto to respect boundaries. There is a rare bi-partisan consensus across the Indian Political spectrum.
One fails to understand why the US did not chide Bilawal Bhutto. It is as if Uncle Sam is not trying to take sides. Sadly, its recent past is too dark to believe this lie.

US-Pakistan nexus
For the last one year and more, the Biden administration has been treating Pakistan with kid gloves. It is one of the highest sources of FDIs in the terrorist nation. America is the one working as Times Square advertiser for Shehbaz Sharif’s flood relief effort. It has given millions and millions of Dollars to Pakistan. It is due to American galvanisation that the World Bank paid $1.69 billion to impoverished country.
On the face of it, there is no problem at all, as all this money is supposed to go for humanitarian purposes. But the fact is that Pakistan’s track record about using aid money is not good. They have almost always used money for funding terrorism. This time around, it has tacit support from the US as well. Its $450 million worth of F-16 fleet sustainment programme drew criticism from India. More recently, it offered support to the Pakistani government in its attempt to counter Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan.
Given the recent history, not chiding a naive and impulsive foreign minister for trying to insult the world’s most respected head of state is definitely not a neutral stance.

In a way, the USA has also freed India of any moral compulsions. During the last 3 decades, Indians have been wishing that the Americans would treat India as a separate power. Instead, the US offered this privilege to China. It is understandable since China was a rising power and the US needed an ally in the region. Though in later years, Jinping’s strategic and economic backstabbing worsened it for America.
Meanwhile, Americans put India in the same bracket as Pakistan. To put it succinctly, China was treated as a separate bloc while India was hyphenated with Pakistan as some minor third world country. When China started to impose its falsely believed hegemony, it also did the same with India.
Finally, when Trump decided to de-hyphenate India and Pakistan, he treated India with the respect it deserved. He always supported India against China. Additionally, Pakistan was also put in the dump yard of American policy in Asia. The Biden administration continued Trump’s policy and has largely been supportive of India in its anti-China stance. It came out in support of India and termed it an ally even on the Tawang border issue.
However, it is supportive of Pakistan too. Democrats just can’t de-hyphenate India and Pakistan. That is true even if India is important for anti-China initiatives like QUAD, IPEF and I2U2 among others. Such an attitude risks the future of these groupings. Even EAM S. Jaishankar has expressed disappointment over Americans’ support of Pakistan’s views about PoK.
It was only a matter of time when American intentions would become transparent and this is that moment. India’s independent foreign policy has become explicit after the beginning of the Ukraine-Russia war. During SCO, it did try to change it a bit by talking to Putin about the crisis. Now, Biden has given India an excuse to not play by the books.
