The business model of Siddhart Varadarajan’s ‘The Wire’

The business model of Siddhart Varadarajan’s ‘The Wire’

The leftist media portals in India mention “Journalistic ethics” at the drop of a hat. Apart from claiming themselves to be the champion in the Journalism trait, they denounce credentials of anyone who doesn’t toe their line. Ironically, the same media portals, in their insane hatred for sanity and logic, have reduced themselves to a mere fake news factory and ragtag publishing portals. They peddle misinformation, disinformation and fake news at an unprecedented level. However, in case of a public expose they flash the victim card and snuggle behind technical flaws or ‘haziness of the matter’.

Narcissistic trait of Leftist media portals

It seems that the self-anointed champions of truth consider themselves to be the focal point of the world and they have a direct influence on everything happening in the world. For them, what happens in the Russia-Ukraine war is an outcome of what the Modi government does in India.

Apparently, for this, they fabricate half-baked conspiracy theories that expose itself for the want of logic and rationale – which the leftist cabal lacks miserably. Evidently, the same happened for the LIAR Wire but this time it kept believing that it can bear the heat just like the boiling frog analogy.

The latest fake news fiasco of ‘The Wire’ started when the fake news peddling portal claimed that META (parent company of Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram) has given special privileges to BJP senior functionaries in its content moderation programme.

The humiliating escalation and ‘The Wire’ tied itself in knots

On 6th of October, it claimed that Instagram removed an objectionable photograph of UP CM Yogi Adityanath for violating its guidelines. The media portal claimed that the top BJP functionaries have direct sway on the content moderation of the BigTech giant, Meta which is known as Xcheck (Cross check).

Further, on 10th of October, The Wire went ahead in its canards and conspiracy theories. It published an article titled as – “If BJP’s Amit Malviya Reports Your Post, Instagram Will Take it Down- No Questions Asked.”

Without wasting any time in clearing the air, Meta officials lambasted ‘The Wire’ for carrying out fabrication and lies. In its first response, Meta’s Communication official Andy Stone dismissed the claims made by the LIAR Wire. He stated that the removal of the said photos was done by automated systems. He also claimed that the screenshots shared by The Wire were fabricated.

‘The Wire’ stretched its lies to a point of no return

But resorting to its usual trait, the Wire started fabricating new fake news to cover up for its mess. The leftist media portal published another report. In this it alleged that the Meta official was upset due to the leak of an internal document.

Meta’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), Guy Rosen pointed out several loopholes in the figmented story of the media portal. Stating the episode as a complete hoax, he ended by saying that let’s hope that the media portal is just a victim and not the perpetrator of this fake news. This clearly demonstrates that even the Meta official knows that if supposed media portals were the ones that fabricate such falsehoods for their agenda, the situation will be more dire and laws will be required to curb this industrialisation of fake news.

I wanted to set the record straight about two stories run this week by @thewire_in with untrue claims about Meta’s content moderation operations and processes. tl;dr these stories are fabrications. (1/6)

— Guy Rosen (@guyro) October 11, 2022

After the relentless expose by netizens and domain expert, The Wire realised that it has tied itself in knots and its lies, canards will suffocate it to a torturous death. To get an easy escape route, it alleged that its Ids were hacked and it is retracing all the controversial propaganda articles. The media portal also added that it would review the works of the research and publishing team involved in the Meta story.

Also Read: Dear The Wire, you’re not worthy enough to be hacked

This is not a first instance of Wire’s conspiracy theories and peddling malicious agenda in the name of journalism.

Earlier, in February, it claimed that BJP supporters are using a monster of an app called ‘Tek Fog’. The media portal claimed that several BJP supporters or IT Cell members are using the highly sophisticated SECRET app to hijack major social media and encrypted messaging platforms. It further claimed that through the app BJP amplified right-wing propaganda to the domestic audience.

Also Read: Dear The Wire, we wish you had a genuine researcher for your “Tek Fog” propaganda

‘Uniqueness’ of Leftist Portal is intentional, based on capitalising FAKE NEWS

However, they forget that Goebbelsian propaganda (Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbel) and theories on lies don’t work in the real world. After getting backlash for all its fake news, the Wire has now accepted that it had no basis to make those claims about the “SECRET” ‘Tek fog’ app. After retracting the Meta stories, The Wire after repeating lies for eight month is REVIEWING its reportage and sources on the Tek fog story.

Lies, deceits and fake news have been the business philosophy of the leftist media portal, ‘The Wire’ and its ilk. To stand out from the rest of the media portals, these leftist media portals carry wishful thinking as exclusive or investigative article pieces and exploit the anti-Modi cabal for their exploits and loot.

But, whenever they are hold accountable for their so-called Journalism and reportage, they retract these pieces without returning the proceeds of these ‘CRIMES’. It is high time that, this criminal business cycle of profit making through fake news and then retracting it later has to be taken to task. Such fraudsters should be disbarred from the profession which has a huge responsibility for society and should be booked under relevant sections for spreading fake news.
