Mallikarjun Kharge: In another attempt of resurrection, the Congress is playing on two fronts. First, the Congress is all set to elect its first non-Gandhi party president. The threads of Congress in the 137 years have been mostly under the control of the Nehru-Gandhi family, for over 50 years. Second, in another attempt to launch Rahul Gandhi, the Gandhi scion is on a ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. Although, when viewed together, it’s clear that a lot is not good within Congress.
Rahul Gandhi’s Yatra reaches poll bound Karnataka
Once freedom fighter Sarojini Naidu commented that, ‘it cost India dearly to keep MK Gandhi in poverty’. The same applies to the Congress. In order to portray Rahul Gandhi as someone who appears the guy next door, Congress is emptying its little left treasury. A rally that was launched with an aim to establish a connection with the common masses, has been caught in controversies since its inception.

Rahul Gandhi began the Karnataka leg of the yatra on September 30 from the Gundlupet district. The Yatra has almost covered the major part of state. The plan is to cover the Old Mysuru belt and central Karnataka.
Kharge seen no where in the Yatra
While Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra is covering the southern tip to the northern point of Karnataka, Mallikarjun Kharge, the tallest Congress leader of Congress in the state, was nowhere to be seen. For the unversed, Mallikarjun Kharge is fighting for Congress’ presidential seat and is being deemed as the official candidate with Gandhi’s backing.
As per reports, Kharge has himself kept away from the Yatra. Mallikarjun Kharge was in Mandya, when Sonia Gandhi joined the Yatra from the district on October 6. However, he didn’t become a part of the padyatra alongside Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. As per reports, he is also unlikely to be present at a public rally the Congress will hold in Karnataka’s Bellary on October 15.

Mallikarjun Kharge abided by Rahul
While there were accusations regarding Mallikarjun Kharge being the official candidate backed by the Gandhis. Rahul Gandhi, replying to the queries, during his press conference had dismissed the claims of the next president being the remote control in the hands of Gandhis. He asserted that both the contenders- Kharge and Tharoor are people of stature and understanding and to make such a suggestion was insulting for them.
With this, it seems that Mallikarjun Kharge has found his opportunity to cancel the long-drawn dynasty rule by cancelling Rahul Gandhi and his self-proclaimed Bharat Jodo padyatra. Elsewise, any Congress neta of Kharge’s stature would have been a part of the yatra, to be in the good books of the Gandhis.
