Nitish Kumar, the powerless king of the broken kingdom, is desperate as the political outfit established by him is at the cusp of disintegration as JD(U)’s former President and former Union Minister Ramchandra Prasad Singh has called it quits.
I am sure IT people will understand this analogy. When it comes to web development there are two parts, the flashy front end and the data processing backend. While the former is the part of a website that the user interacts with directly, the latter is the hodgepodge of chaotic yet orderly codes which is not seen by the users. A website without a strong backend can not exist. Now if we replace the website with JD(U), you can easily understand that Nitish Kumar is the flashy front end and Ramchandra Prasad Singh is the number crunching backend.
JDU backend, RCP Singh resigns
RCP Singh the ‘backend’ of Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) has resigned from JDU after the party sought his reply on corruption allegations. A letter was sent to Singh, on Thursday asking for a pointwise clear-cut explanation regarding immovable properties owned by his family, with a singular focus on the plots registered in the last 9 years from 2013 to 2022.

In the aftermath of these grave allegations, Singh announced his resignation from the party from his native village in Nalanda. Responding to the queries about corruption, Singh said, “All the lands mentioned in the allegations were purchased in the names of my two daughters Lipi Singh and Lata Singh. The former is an IPS officer and latter is an advocate. Both have been filing their separate income tax returns for the last 10 years.”
War of words
The bureaucrat turned politician, RCP Singh, while resigning informed of being mentally tortured for the last one and a quarter years. Claiming that his aides have stooped to a very low level, as allegations of corruption were framed against his daughters and spouse. Further elaborating the timeline of events, he said, “You denied me a ticket for the Rajya Sabha, I didn’t mind. You vacated me from the house, I didn’t mind. But now you have stooped to such a low that you are levelling allegations on my family.”
Following his resignation, Singh also called the JD(U) a sinking ship, in response to which, JD(U) National President Lalan Singh accused him of being the Chirag Model 2.0, that was being planned to reduce the stature of Nitish Kumar, in Lalan Singh’s words.
“RCP Singh had never been part of any struggle of the party but was part of the power. Now that he has been removed from power, he was feeling the pain. What happened with RCP Singh had to happen someday because his body was with Janata Dal United but his soul was somewhere else”, Lalan Singh said.

RCP Singh’s exit will mark the end of JD(U)
RCP Singh, although not hailing from a political background, was a man of organisation in JD(U) who kept Nitish’s cadre intact. RCP has been active in JD(U) for over a decade and has been looking after party structure. To add on, RCP Singh was a big Kurmi face in the JDU, a caste group, which even Nitish Kumar himself couldn’t turn into a loyal vote bank. By choosing him as the National President, Nitish attempted to reach the Kurmi and Koeri constituency also known as Luv-Kush of Bihar.
Singh was once a confidant of the CM, he was borrowed from the UP Cadre and appointed as the Principal Secretary by Nitish Kumar himself. Singh made his political debut in 2010, after getting elected to the Rajya Sabha on a JD(U) ticket. Singh was also the sole representative of the party at the central level. However, he was forced to step down from his ministerial berth after party denied him a third consecutive Rajya Sabha term.
With Singh calling the quits, not only JD(U)’s future is endangered, but the NDA alliance in Bihar is in trouble too, as Nitish Kumar has decided to not join the PM-led Union cabinet during its next expansion.
