From the past few months – there has been a topic being widely discussed during casual debates on chai, in chat shows, and even on social media. It is how Tollywood is slowly but gradually surpassing Bollywood? It is how the South Indian entertainment industry is crushing the Hindi film industry in all aspects. However, a list has been released on social media which has exposed the actual standards of Bollywood in Indian cinema.
Ormax’s list reveals standard of Bollywood
South stars are ruling the Indian cinema. Actors like Allu Arjun, Prabhas, and Yash are giving Bollywood stars a run for their money as their movies are receiving more love than the Bollywood stars by the cinemagoers of North India. They have emerged as the winners in the newly released list of most popular film stars in India. Not only this, the first top 5 spots have been booked by south actors leaving the Bollywood actors to live in shame for not being able to make it to the list.
Recently, the ‘Ormax Stars India Loves: Most popular male film stars in India (June 2022) list was revealed. Shockingly, 9 out of 10 actors hail from the south-Indian industry. Akshay Kumar, at the 6th position, is the only Bollywood actor in this list of top 10.
Not only male actors but when it comes to the list of top 10 female actors, there seems to be a dearth of popularity. The top female stars list also has featured more number of south actresses, than Bollywood. Samantha Ruth Prabhu has topped the list of Most popular female film stars in India leaving divas like Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif behind.
Akshay’s response to the list
Over the past few months, the South Indian industry is taking over Bollywood while the latter has failed to impress the audience. South Indian films are breaking several box office records. The South Indian industry vs Bollywood debate is one of the most talked about controversies and several celebs have shared their views on the topic.
When Karan Johar recently asked Akshay Kumar why the South film industry is taking over Bollywood, Akshay replied that actors in Bollywood were very insecure and do not want to share the screen with other actors. He said, “I don’t know why Bollywood actors are so insecure about doing two-hero films. I once did a 7 hero film.”
He then went on to reveal that he had a very difficult time during the casting for a two-hero film that he will star in and produce. He said that he also told the actors to choose whichever role they wanted to play but nothing worked.

How Tollywood is keeping Bollywood on its knees?
According to the reports, the Indian Entertainment industry (Bollywood + South Cinema) has collected nearly Rs 5700 crores in the first six months of this year. However, after a deep analysis, you can easily conclude that barring a few Hindi films, Bollywood movies have fallen flat on the box office.

The collection was only possible because of the films like RRR, Pushpa: The Rise, KGF 2 among others. All the three films have performed beyond expectations to help the entertainment industry survive this year. John Abraham starrer action packed movie ‘Attack’ ; South remake ‘Jersey’ with Shahid Kapoor in the lead role; multi star cast film ‘Runway 34’ with Ajay Devgnn in the protagonist role; crude Nepotism driven ‘Heropanti 2’ ; Kangana with her female lead action thriller ‘Dhakad’; Ayushmann Khurana trying his luck in ‘Anek’ could not manage to attract the cinemagoers to the theatres.
Meanwhile, the South Indian stars came and conquered the entertainment industry. They took the entire box office by storm and their popularity kept increasing throughout India. Now, the Ormax list is yet another proof of how Tollywood stars are here to shine and Bollywood needs to be scared of them.
It is high time the Hindi cinema industry start offering fresh content with no propaganda to the audience or it will cease to exist in the next few years.
