India thrashes UN for its double standards on religiophobia

India thrashes UN for its double standards on religiophobia

The recent controversy involving Nupur Sharma’s comment became an opportunity for countries to showcase India as a symbol of intolerance. Their echoes were heard in United Nations as well but our diplomats were ready. They took the stage and in fact thrashed the UN for its double standards.

India takes on United Nations

India has again conveyed to the world that double standards on discrimination against religion will not take them anywhere. T.S. Tirumurty, India’s ambassador to the UN reminded the forum that not just Abramhic religions like Islam and Christianity, but even non-Abrahamic religions are also facing discrimination and that need to be identified as well.

Stressing the need for removing selectivity while combating religiophobia, Tirumurty said “As we have emphasized time and again, combating religiophobia should not be a selective exercise involving only one or two religions but should apply equally to phobias against non-Abrahamic religions as well. Till this is done, such international days will never achieve their objectives. There cannot be double standards on religiophobia”

India’s warning to divisive forces

India’s ambassador took on the opportunity to criticise those countries who tried to interfere in India’s domestic issues by taking advantage of Nupur Sharma controversy. He reminded UN that throughout history, India’s multicultural edifice has provided protection to every religious community and a slight aberration won’t be allowed to be pounced on by divisive forces working to destabilise Bharatvarsh.

“Aberrations are dealt with within our legal framework and we do not need selective outrage from outsiders, especially when they are self-serving – even communal in nature, and pursuing a divisive agenda,” added India’s ambassador.

Religiophobia, not Islamophobia: India

This is not the first time India has taken a stand against open discrimination by the United Nations. In March, United Nations passed a resolution to recognise international day of Islamophobia. Apparently, it was sponsored by the same Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) which recently tried to corner India on Nupur Sharma incident.

Even then Tirumurty had taken the charge from India’s side and factually demolished the narrative propagating that there is even a phenomenon called Islamophobia. Asserting that resolution to recognise phobia against one particular religion may lead to divide the UN, Tirumurty had said, “We hope that the resolution adopted today (Tuesday) does not set a precedent which will lead to multiple resolutions on phobias based on selective religions and divide the United Nations into religious camps.”

He then went on to inform the UN that due to religiophobia against Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, and Jews, people following that way of life were persecuted. He also presented historical evidences of the same and told that more people are living under religiophobia than those who claim to be hit by Islamophobia.

They don’t act foolishly when they ignore religiophobia

Unfortunately, the United Nations has been too blind-sided to note all this. The forum is dominated by either the IVY league professors or their trained guns who remain in oblivion. Inch by inch European and other western nations are being occupied by Islamists and they are busy shouting Islamophobia. It raises a question about whether these disciples of professors who are the big factors in formulating such policies are deliberately doing it or not.

For the time being, the answer seems to be yes. You do not speak against something only when you do not know about it or you are benefitting from it. The evidences of persecution by Islamists are so much there that no one can put his/her eye off it. The second alternative is the only answer, which is that people dominating the United Nations are well funded by petrodollars.

Otherwise, a strong voice of condemnation against the ISIS attack on Afghanistan Gurudwara would be reverberating. But, the big heads of United Nations like USA and its allies have not done so (until the time of reporting). Probably, petrodollars are too big a price to pay for millions of lives.
