Sarah was born on August 12, 1995, in Bombay, Maharashtra, India. She is the daughter of actors Amrita Singh and Saif Ali Khan. Khan began her acting career after graduating from Columbia University in 2018 with the films Kedarnath and Simmba. Both films were commercially successful, earning her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for the former.
Khan was included in Forbes India’s 2019 Celebrity 100 list. After two critically panned films, she starred in the drama Atrangi Re (2021).
Career
Sarah Ali Khan made her acting debut in Abhishek Kapoor’s romantic drama Kedarnath, in which she played a Hindu girl who falls in love with Sushant Singh Rajput’s Muslim porter.
A few weeks after the release of Kedarnath, Khan co-starred with Ranveer Singh in Rohit Shetty’s action flick Simmba, which was partially inspired by the Telugu film Temper (2015). When filming on Kedarnath was temporarily halted, she began work on it. Abhishek Kapoor sued Khan as a result of this, and the two eventually settled out of court when she agreed to share her time between the two films.
Simmba was the third highest-grossing Hindi film of 2018, with worldwide earnings of $4 billion (US$52 million).
Sarah Ali Khan appeared as a young woman with a troubled history alongside Kartik Aaryan in Imtiaz Ali’s romantic drama Love Aaj Kal (2020), a spiritual sequel to Ali’s 2009 film of the same name.
Khan co-starred in the comedy film Coolie No. 1 with Varun Dhawan, which was based on David Dhawan’s 1995 film of the same name. The film received a lot of attention on Amazon Prime, but it was universally condemned by critics.
Khan starred alongside Akshay Kumar and Dhanush in Aanand L. Rai’s drama Atrangi Re in 2021.
