Rahul Gandhi attempted to gherao the Bhartiya Janta Party over the ongoing issue of the Sedition Law. Well, Rahul Gandhi who tried to teach the BJP a lesson regarding patriotism and treason by referring to the Supreme Court’s order of putting sedition law on hold got lambasted by Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju.
Rahul Gandhi attempts to take a jibe at Modi Government
The NDA alliance ruling at the center led by the Bhartiya Janta Party is mulling over removing the controversial ‘Sedition Law’. A day before the SC was set to gather and examine the constitutional validity of the aforementioned law; section 124-A, the Centre informed the apex court that provisions of the law will be re-examined and reconsidered- after PM Narendra Modi’s intervention.
Rahul Gandhi in his attempt to encash the court’s move dropped a tweet, and attempted to take a jibe at PM Modi-led central government. In his tweet, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “Telling the truth is patriotism, not treason.” The fourth-generation dynast tried to school the Modi government on Rajdharma. His tweet further read, “Listening to truth is the Rajdharma, To crush the truth is arrogance. Do not fear.”
However, the dynast was lambasted by Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju who gave Rahul Gandhi the most needed history lesson.

Kiren Rijiju schools the Gandhi dynast like never before
“A party that is the antithesis of freedom, democracy and respect for Institutions, it is the Indian National Congress.” With these words, Union Home Minister Kiren Rijiju schooled Congress’ prince Rahul Gandhi and gave him the most necessary history lesson he needed.
Union Law Minister ripped into Rahul Gandhi and accused the Congress party of being associated with “breaking India forces” and has left no opportunity to divide India. Rijiju schooled the Gandhi dynast about the deeds of the Gandhi family, when in power and said that the Congress party and “its ecosystem of the ‘Tukde-Tukde’ gang have no right to give sermons to others.”

Rijiju reminds Rahul Gandhi of the ‘First Amendment’ and the Emergency
In a series of tweets, Union Law Minister reminded Rahul Gandhi about the First Amendment and schooled him on how India’s First PM Jawaharlal Nehru brought in the amendment, when SP Mookerjee and Jana Sangh were stood in opposition to this measure aimed at curtailing freedom of expression. Not to mention, Pt. Nehru also dismissed the democratically elected government of Kerala.

Congress was a hegemonic power back in 1950s as there was no viable political opposition and it enjoyed an overwhelming majority. Taking advantage of the political situation, PM Nehru’s government reimposed Sedition on independent India by introducing the First Amendment in 1951 and strengthened it by adding two expressions- “friendly relations with foreign state” and “public order”- as grounds for imposing “reasonable restrictions” on free speech.
The next assault on the constitution of India was the ‘Emergency’ imposed by another politician from the Gandhi clan, then PM Indira Gandhi. Indira Gandhi has put a black spot on the world’s largest democracy by revoking Emergency laws hence throwing the concept of fundamental rights in the backseat.
Rijiju while reminding Rahul Gandhi of the Emergency wrote; “when it comes to trampling over free speech, “Mrs. Indira Gandhi Ji is a Gold Medal Winner,” and remarked how Indira Gandhi came up with an idea of ‘Committed Judiciary’ with an aim to weaken the judiciary viz the third pillar.

He further mentioned that it was Indira Gandhi who made Section 124-A a cognisable offence for the first time in India’s history.
Rijiju makes the deeds of Chidambaram count
Rijiju further wrote, “UPA Government has the worst track record of filing sedition cases. In 2012, thousands of people had sedition cases filed against them under the watchful eyes of ‘Recounting Minister’ P. Chidambaram.”

He was responding to P. Chidambaram’s tweet, where the latter mentioned that the law minister has no authority to draw any arbitrary Lakshman Rekha, and advised him to read Article 13 of the Indian constitution.
The Law Minister reminded him the time of Anna movement and anti-corruption movement and claimed that those not toeing the UPA line were “subjected to bullying, harassment, intimidation and arrests.”
Showing the mirror to the Congress, Rijiju said that the Congress party and it’s ecosystem of the Tukde-Tukde gang have no right to give sermons to others. He also mentioned that the NDA government under PM Modi will “always protect the unity, integrity and sovereignty of India. It will also protect the values enshrined in our Constitution.”
