‘The wall’, as Rahul Dravid is fondly known, never hesitated in sacrificing his personal ambitions for the greater good of the Indian Cricket Team. During his playing days, Rahul Dravid was a selfless cricketer, whose only selfish choice was to do good for the country. It is this selfless quality of his that he has always been viewed as a national icon. Now speculations are rife that the head coach of the Indian team may soon join the nationalistic party.
Rahul Dravid to attend BJP Yuva Morcha session
Ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka and other states, BJP is focused on motivating its youth cadre to garner momentum. BJP Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the party, headed by BJP stalwart Tejaswi Surya is taking the charge.
BYJM has decided to organise its next working session in the Dharamsala district of Himachal Pradesh. It will be held from May 12 to May 15. It is going to be a high-profile event as BJP president J P Nadda, other senior party members and Union ministers will also be part of the event. To inspire the youth, people from other walks of life have been invited as well. These include acclaimed female wrestler Babita Phogat and Team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid.
“The National Working Committee session of BJP Yuva Morcha will be held in Dharamshala from May 12 to 15. The national leadership of BJP and the leadership of Himachal Pradesh will be involved. BJP National President JP Nadda, National Organization Minister and Union Ministers will also attend the session. Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid will also participate in this. Owing to his success, a message will be given among the youth that we can move forward not only in politics but also in other fields” said Vishal Nehria, BJP MLA from Dharamsala

Dravid for Rajya Sabha?
Similar speculations were being raised when in 2018, former President Pranab Mukherjee was invited to deliver a speech on Nation, Nationalism and Patriotism at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh event, in Nagpur. However, as it turned out, Pranab Da chose to remain impartial during his retirement years.

Up until now, Dravid has carried his public portfolio with grace. He has largely been away from controversies and engaging in politics virtually means that you have to remain at the centre of controversy. It’s highly unlikely that he will join electoral politics, but a Rajya Sabha seat in future may be on cards. After all, Sachin was also a Rajya Sabha member.
