What is Noble Peace Prize given for? Well, if its recent nominations are something to go by, the prize seemingly is given to honour the biggest hypocrites and those who are well aware of the craft of peddling fake news. You might be wondering whom I am talking about? Let me introduce you to the most ‘ironic’ nominations for Noble Peace Prize.
Alt News is a nominee for Noble Peace Prize
Alt News – an extended arm of INC’s ecosystem which masquerades as a “fact-checker” and is known for its uncanny ability to turn stones into wallets. Despite this, the names of Pratik Sinha and Mohammed Zubair were suggested for Noble Peace Price nominations by the directors of Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO). Pratik and Zubair notably are co-founders of fact-checking website Alt News. PRIO had publicised Henrik Urdal’s 2022 Nobel Peace Prize Shortlist on their official website earlier this year.
The PRIO had heaped praise on the co-founders of fact-checking website Alt News, which claims to fact check the reports thereby preventing any misinformation and fake news. As per the PRIO, this is what makes them worthy candidates for Noble Peace Prize.
The PRIO, in one of its statements, noted, “Other worthy candidates for a prize focused on combating religious extremism and intolerance in India are Mohammed Zubair and Pratik Sinha, the co-founders of Alt News, a fact-checking site making significant contributions to debunking misinformation aimed at vilifying Muslims in India.”
It is pertinent to note that the Nobel Peace Prize is given every year since 1901 by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. The prize is awarded only to those persons or organizations who promote peace through their efforts and actions. The Nobel Peace Prize is one of the five Nobel Prizes along with the Chemistry, Physics, Physiology or Medicine and Literature.
Alt News is a ‘fact checker’
Alt News, a left-leaning website which claims to be a ‘fact checker’ was found in potential violation of the principles of its approver, the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN). IFCN is a unit of the Poynter Institute dedicated to bringing together fact-checkers worldwide.

Moreover, as reported by TFI, the Ghaziabad Police on June 15 had booked eight people, including Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair, besides three Congress leaders and Saba Naqvi. The FIR was lodged under sections 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 153A (promoting enmity between groups on grounds of religion, class, etc), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious belief) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
In addition to the above claims, Alt News, the website commissioned on the payrolls of Congress and other left-liberal organisations once exposed itself. After Congress was caught with its pants down for the devious Toolkit — Alt News was quick to jump in and released an article, where, in a rather childish and amusing way, the ‘fact checking’ website granted a clean chit to the Congress party.

The founders of Alt News indeed deserve the Noble Peace Prize. After all, who could have done a better job than the media portal to peddle the agenda, right?
