Son of late music baron Gulshan Kumar and Managing Director of music and film studios T-Series, Bhushan Kumar’s legal troubles have just compounded after a Mumbai magistrate court refused to accept the closure report in a rape case filed against Bhushan Kumar last year.
The court noted that the manner in which Bhushan attempted to contest the matter was unfortunate, unethical and unjustified. Ordering the Mumbai police to investigate the case further, the court slammed Bhushan by stating, his attempts show his eagerness to get rid of the matter at the earliest.
The court was looking into a B Summary report filed by Mumbai Police. A B summary report is submitted by police when the police classified the case as maliciously false or when there is no evidence or prima facie case against the accused after investigation. However, the court noted that the Police had made no attempt to investigate the case by following the fundamental steps such as recording the statement of the victim.
Magistrate slams Mumbai police
Metropolitan magistrate RR Khan was quoted as saying, “From the perusal of the final report, it is apparent that after registration of the FIR, the investigating officers, Police Inspector Anil Mule and Assistant Police Inspector Hasina Shikalkar of DN Nagar Police Station have infringed upon the established directions of law as well as advisories issued by the government by not recording the statement of the victim under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code before a magistrate for reasons best known to them.”
The magistrate further added, “They have also breached the directions issued by the Supreme Court, by virtue of which it was incumbent on the police to record the statement of the victim before a magistrate.”
The rape case came to light last year in July when the 30-year-old woman complainant alleged that Bhushan Kumar raped her on the pretext of providing a job in some projects of his own company. The woman said Bhushan allegedly sexually exploited her between 2017 and 2020 at various places. At the time, Bhushan was booked under IPC sections 376 (rape), 420 (cheating), 506 (criminal intimidation).
T-Series has time and again iterated that allegations against Bhushan are false and that they have proof against the woman. The studio claims that the woman was trying to get a web series made with T-Series but was denied the same.
Sonu Nigam exposes Bhushan Kumar and his other rape case
However, this is not the first time Bhushan Kumar has found himself in a controversy. Sonu Nigam in 2020 had remarked that Bhushan was one of the music mafias in the country who had single-handedly destroyed the careers of several veterans as well as up and coming artists.
In one of his vlogs, Sonu slammed T-Series and Bhushan by remarking, “Now, I need to take Bhushan Kumar’s name. You’ve instigated the wrong person. You forgot that time when you came to my home and pleaded me to do one album for you, pleaded me to introduce you to Subrata Roy, Smita Thackeray, Bal Thackeray… pleaded me to save you from Abu Salem. Do you remember all this?”
The singer further added, “I’m warning you not to engage with me in any manner. Hope you remember Marina Kuwar. I don’t know why she backed out, though the media knows. That’s how the mafia functions. I still have her video. Now if you mess with me, I will post that video on my YouTube channel. Don’t you dare mess with me.”
Marina Kuwar is a model and actor who had accused Bhushan Kumar of sexual misconduct in 2018, when the #MeToo movement was at its peak in the country. However, using his muscle and money might, Bhushan managed to evade the legal system. The T-Series head Bhushan Kumar is making a similar play in the aforementioned case and if he gets his way, it will set a dangerous precedent and only bolster his confidence to molest other females.
