Tarun Tahiliani is one of the most popular fashion designers in India and has a large fan following across various social media platforms.

When he returned to India, he first went to work for his family’s oil-field equipment company. With the support of designer Rohit Khosla, he and Sailaja eventually built the first multi-designer store in India, ‘Ensemble,’ in Mumbai in 1987. The collection included pieces by five designers: Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla, Rohit Khosla, Anuradha Mafatlal, American fashion designer Neil Bieff and label Anaya, by Anita Shivdasani and Sunita Kapoor, Anil Kapoor’s wife, and Ahilian, by Anita Shivdasani and Sunita Kapoor. He had begun sketching by this time, but he was still untrained as a designer, so he enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York to study design in 1991.

He relocated his firm to Delhi after his return. His work was first noted when British heiress Jemima Khan wore one of his outfits at her wedding to Imran Khan in 1995.

Ensemble now has locations in both Mumbai and Delhi, and Tahiliani co-owns the company with his sister Tina Tahiliani Parikh, who joined the company in 1990.

Tarun Tahiliani also collaborated with Save the Children India to lobby the government for a 3% increase in the health budget before the budget was announced.

Work Biography of Tarun Tahiliani

What a joy it was to see the models sashaying down the runway in a’sadhu/sadhvi’ avatar, their clothes reflecting the many shades of the Kumbh in their attire, which ranged from sunset hues and rusts to deep reds and ambers with hints of blues, aubergines, and pinks.

The renowned designer seems to have meticulously recreated a chunk of the panoramic Kumbh Mela on the ramp. The elegant shapes and delicate structure of Tahiliani’s exotic, yet earthy clothing line invoked the essence of divinity, creating a visual appeal that promised to linger in the minds of viewers long after the event.

On Day 2 of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2013, fashion devotees waited a long time to see master couturier Tarun Tahiliani’s ‘Kumbhback’ collection (inspired by his own trip to the Mela this year) as millions waited to take a dip in the holy waters during the 55-day long festival at the Maha Kumbh in Allahabad. We hope this biography article of Tarun Tahiliani will be helpful for you to understand his journey and works.
