Swamy39 Biography
Before joining politics, he was a professor of Mathematical economics at the Indian institute of technology, Delhi. Swamy has started his political career with his involvement in the Sarvodaya movement which was a non-political movement but which formed the foundation of the creation of Janta Party. His main political career came after his dismissal from the Indian institute of Technology, Delhi. Staunch opponent of Indira Gandhi bharatiya Jana Sangh sent him to Rajya sabha which is the upper house of
Indian parliament.

Subramanian Swamy (Swamy39) was a member of the Rajya sabha and nominated as a minister of commerce and industry and minister of Law between 1990 and 1991.
Member of Parliament of Lok Sabha:
As a member of the parliament of Lok sabha, Swamy has represented the city of Mumbai North East twice from 1977 to 1980 and the city of Madurai in 1998. As a Rajya Sabha member, he has represented Uttar Pradesh in the parliament.
During the period of the emergency, he fled to the United States of America seeking haven with an Indian businessman in Michigan who had become the spokesperson of the opponent in the United States of America.
Swamy started his opinion that the Janata party should focus on the organizational level of the party. He was also the president of the Janta Party between 1990 and 2013.

- Subramanian Swamy was born on 15 September 1939 in Mylapore, Chennai, India.
- His wife’s name is Roxna Swamy and they married in 1996. They have two daughters.
- The elder daughter Gitanjali Swamy is an entrepreneur and private equity professional. Gitanjali is married to Sanjay Sharma who is also a professor at MIT.The younger daughter, Suhasini Haidar is a print and television journalist married to Nadeem Haidar who is the son of former Indian foreigner secretary, Salman Haider.
- He is originally from Madurai in Tamil Nadu. Swamy was born in a Brahmin family. His father was a bureaucrat and his mother was a housewife.
- He has a younger brother Ram Subramanian and two younger sisters.

- Subramanian Swamy (Swamy39) completed his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Delhi. After graduation, he completed his master’s degree in statistics from the Indian statistical institute.
- He holds a PhD in Economics from Harvard University through a Rockefeller scholarship. His thesis was on ” Economic growth and income distribution in developing Nations”.
- The Nobel prize holder American economist Simon Kuznets was an advisor to Subramanian Swamy during his PhD.
- He attended the Massachusetts institute of technology as a cross-registered student. Later on, he worked at the United Nations secretariat economics affairs in 1963.
