Tamil Nadu is the hotbed of forceful religious conversions. Thus, it has been in limelight for multiple deaths because of forceful religions, conversion rackets and government-backed anti-Hindu activities. In one such case, a 17-year-old girl Lavanya committed suicide in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur after being forced to convert to Christianity. In the aftermath of demand made by the girl’s family, Madras High Court has ordered the transfer of the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
CBI to probe into Lavanya suicide case
Ever since the girl has died, her parents have been asking for a fair investigation into conversion allegations made by her daughter. Lavanya’s father had filed a plea seeking a CBI-CID inquiry into his daughter’s death. Now, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has ordered that the CBI will probe into Lavanya’s suicide case.

Meanwhile, the girl’s parents have claimed that they have lost faith in Thanjavur Police and thus, had filed the plea seeking justice for their daughter.
Madras High Court, earlier, had asked a VHP leader named Muthuvel to hand over his phone to the police for investigation into the video. Notably, Muthuvel had shot the video of the girl in which she can be heard saying that two years ago, a woman called Raquel Mary had asked her to convert to Christianity.
Lavanya’s suicide case
Earlier as reported by TFI, the girl, in a purported video had claimed that she was constantly scolded and also made to clean all the rooms in the hostel by the hostel warden. The girl alleged that she was constantly forced to take up Christianity.

The deceased girl consumed pesticides on January 9 due to harassment and abuse being faced by her. The victim had complained of severe stomach ache and was also admitted to a hospital.
The father of the deceased girl said that the school management contacted him on January 10 and told him that his daughter was admitted to a hospital following vomiting and complaints of severe stomach pain.
When she regained consciousness, she narrated her ordeal to the doctors who informed the Thirukattupalli police about the incident.
The hostel warden has been arrested under the Juvenile Act and also for abetting the suicide of the deceased girl.
However, the media’s insensitive coverage to twist the case came as a huge shame. But, the Madras High Court, with its decision to transfer the case to CBI, has hammered the attempts of the Tamil Nadu government and media to suggest otherwise.
