Callum Paterson signed a three-year contract with EFL Championship club Cardiff City on June 7, 2017.After missing the first two months of the season due to a knee injury sustained at Hearts, he returned to play for the Under-23 side in a 4–0 triumph over Burnley on September 18. Paterson returned to the first team on October 21, making his debut in a 1–0 win over Middlesbrough, before scoring his first goal for the club a month later, the winner at Barnsley.
