In a move to mark the beginning of a developmental project, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to flag off the Rs 9,802 crore Saryu Canal National project in Balrampur district in eastern Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. Interestingly, the project was finalised in 1974 and only 52 per cent of the project was completed between 1978 and 2017. However, Yogi Government took responsibility on its hand and in the aftermath, the project is being inaugurated.
Inauguration of Saryu Canal Project:
After examining the project site in Shravasti and Bahraich districts, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s declaration for the inauguration of the project came on Thursday. He asserted that it was a “big gift to the farmers of eastern UP from the prime minister.”
While addressing the media, Chief Minister Yogi said, “A grand programme has been organised in Balrampur on December 11 to express gratitude to the prime minister.”
Informing about the utility of the project, Adityanath stated that “The project would help around 30 lakh farmers irrigate 14.5 lakh hectares of land in nine districts in the region. The 6,623-km canal system that is linked to the 318-km main canal —spans nine districts from Bahraich to Gorakhpur, and interconnects rivers such as Ghagra, Saryu, Rapti and Rohini which was extremely important for achieving the goal of doubling the income of farmers.”
A journey from 1974 to 2021:
As per the claims of the State Government, the project was stalled in 1974 but it took years for the then government to start the work in 1978. While only 52 per cent of the project was completed in 39 years, it took only four years for Yogi Government to finish it.
The project is assumed to ensure the maximum possible income for the farmers of the region and will essentially create employment opportunities.
Yogi’s Development Programme:
A few months ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is quietly transforming the state infrastructure and in turn the lives of the voters of the most populous state of the country.
In a big boost to sugarcane farmers, he had announced a Rs 25 per quintal hike in the state-advised price (SAP) of sugarcane in the state for the 2021-22 season. The Sugarcane industry in UP was collapsing until Yogi came to power and changed the face of the industry.

He has made it his mission to connect Uttar Pradesh and its distant villages and towns to the mainstream. It was CM yogi’s efforts that the state which was earlier famously infamous for crime and unemployment became the fifth-largest contributor to the country’s exports.
Apart from the export hub, Uttar Pradesh has also emerged as a textile hub with as many as 15 textile mills set up in the state in the past three years.
With the Yogi Government ruling the state, the overall growth of Uttar Pradesh is guaranteed. And those appeasing Muslims to switch sides ahead of the state elections need to understand that it is the work done in a state that can lead any party to win the state and not appeasement.
