‘Rape is accepted in Hinduism,’ Devdutt Pattanaik hits the lowest of the lows in his new article

Devdutt Pattanaik, Hinduism

Devdutt Pattanaik, clearly a leftist, more so a socialist, claims to be an expert on Sanatan shastras and Sanatan culture. His interpretations of the Ramayana, Mahabharata, among others have found no buyers among those who have genuine knowledge of the Indian culture. In such a move, Devdutt stoops to a new low to malign Hinduism yet again.

‘Rape is accepted in Hinduism’- Devdutt Pattanaik

In a recent article titled “Do Vedas Permit a Man to Marry a Man?” published in The Economic Times, Pattanaik has claimed that “A thousand year later, dharma-shastra speaks of eight ways in which a man can marry a woman. One of them, not approved but accepted is rape (pisacha vivaha).”

However, the claim did not go down well with netizens. A former Journalist, Monica, slammed Pattanaik and tweeted, “Rape is accepted but not approved in Hinduism” What an irresponsible and loose translation of Hindu scriptures by @devduttmyth in ET today!”

Devdutt Pattanaik- an overrated pop-mythologist

Devdutt is infamous for intentionally writing such tweets and articles, which have a common aim – insult the followers of Sanatan Dharma and provoke them. Earlier, he had posted an obnoxious tweet, mocking the Shastra Puja of Rafale and the Indian economy.

He had tweeted, “Cows are sacred. It’s urine purifies. Limbu-mirchi is not. Its smell does not protect. Sound like fierce advertising competition in Hindutva world. Go-Lakshmi versus Kadak-Lakshmi. But where is Dhana-Lakshmi, ask economists? Is she coming, going or asleep?”

Additionally, Devdutt also combined many versions of Ramayana and made a mess out of them. There is the Ramayana– the version said to have been penned by Valmiki- and there are Ramayanas- the Kamban Ramayana, the Javanese Ramayana, the Oriya Ramayana, etc. Mr Pattanaik combines them all into something with often hilarious results.

For instance, the Valmiki Ramayana features a Hanuman who is a celibate, stoic and grim ascetic. The Javanese Hanuman is the product of centuries of cross-pollination from both the Indian accounts of Hanuman- as well as the Chinese interpretations of Hanuman that had flown into the country from India centuries ago and merged with local legends of monkey lords- thus, producing a happy-go-lucky womanizing and cheerful warlord. Mr Pattanaik combined both versions into one character in Sita- and made a mess of both.

Devdutt, through his books and articles, leaves no stone unturned to ensure that the reader is indoctrinated with bogus ideas about Indian culture. And now with the recent claim, he has yet again proved to lie on Hinduism is the only source of his bread and butter.

I am waiting for one brave soul to say something similar about Islam or Christianity. Of course, that would be the last thing he would be able to say. His/her dead body cannot say anything more.

Devdutt Patnaik was born as a Hindu but perhaps in the wrong era. The social media of today will tear him apart with woken up Hindus taking on all kind of falsehood down. It was more appropriate for him to be born in another Charlatan Pervert Periyar Swamys time when these anti Hindu crooks could peddle their lies so conveniently and be glorified by western forces as revolutionaries. Today their words are not even worth 2 pence. Dev Dutts theory of lies and propaganda should be shut down.
