The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation has launched a 2-month long campaign from 1st November to 31ST December 2019 – Swachh Sundar Samudayik Shauchalaya to mobilize districts, blocks and village to construct, paint and maintain their community toilets.
The ministry of drinking water and sanitation of the Government of India has launched a pioneering campaign to mobilize rural families to improve their sanitation facilities. Each household owner will be motivated to tidy up their toilets by painting and creatively decorating them including
Swachh Bharat logos and health safety messages
As part of the Swachh Sundar Shauchalaya competition, toilets have been painted in colors with culturally significant patterns and messages that describe the scene – an exercise that inspires pride as it makes the toilets aesthetically pleasing.

Swachh Sundar Shauchalaya Awards
Swachh Sundar Shauchalay 2019 contest was launched by Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation to fight the age-old practice of open defecation in rural parts and promote toilet usage under which rural households were asked to creatively decorate and facelift their toilets. The best paintings with sanitary inscriptions were awarded.
-The winners in best states were Jharkhand, Telangana, Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar haveli and Maharashtra.
– The winners in districts were Giridh (Jharkhand), Kolhapur (Maharashtra) and Peddapalli (Telangana)
Statement given by the Ministry
In a statement to the states, the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation of the Jal Shakti Ministry (Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin) praised union families, districts, states and territories across the country for participating with great enthusiasm in the competition and for taking the Indian sanitation revolution to the next level. During the campaign, rural Indian residents painted, decorated and modernized more than 1.34 billion toilets, according to the ministry. This initiative raises awareness among people about proper sanitation, hygiene and cleanliness of the roads and streets – a goal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi set when he launched the Swachh. Bharat Abhiyan in 2014 – and that massive campaigns such as Swachh Sundar Samudayik Shauchalaya (SSSS) campaign; Samudayik Shauchalaya Abhiyan (SSA); Gandagi Se Mukt (GMB) in the past years to support ODF Plus efforts to achieve the end of the open defecation.
