Liberals and Congress were brutally insulted after they tried to troll PM Narendra Modi based on a half-baked reading of a Supreme Court order on Pegasus software fiasco.

SC orders probe into Pegasus Scandal

On 27th October 2021, Supreme Court ordered an independent probe into the Pegasus software spy scam. The scandal around ‘unauthorised surveillance’ of individual citizens will be thoroughly probed by a three-member technical committee which will be overseen by Justice R V Raveendran(former judge), who will be assisted by two other experts.

Congress and the liberals jumped the gun and unknowingly celebrated the government’s victory

As soon as the development around the Pegasus started to make headlines, top Congress leaders and their liberal brethren took to social media to attack the Modi government. The man-child Rahul Gandhi himself took the initiative and claimed that only two people (probably Narendra Modi and Amit Shah) could have been involved in the spying of journalists, politicians, and other high-profile individuals.

— Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) October 27, 2021

Randeep Singh Surjewala, General Secretary of Indian National Congress and member of Congress Working Committee accused the Modi government of being a dystopian state which curbs free speech and violates the rights of citizens. He welcomed the decision to form a committee by calling the Modi government’s policies pseudo-nationalistic fascism. Moreover, he also accused the government of trying to evade the responsibility.

Pseudo-Nationalism is the last refuge of cowardly fascists everywhere.

Welcome SC order setting up Spl Committee to examine misuse of spyware #Pegasus despite Modi Govts embarrassing attempts to evade, avoid & divert attention in the name of National Security.

The mirror today for Modi Govt is the quote from George Orwell’s ‘1984’-

“A dystopian state, where the Govt oppresses free speech, manufactures false propaganda on a daily basis and violates the personal lives of its citizens through constant surveillance.”#PegasusSnoopgate

Rohini Singh, another journalist infamous for toeing the left-liberal agendas thanked The Wire for their series allegedly exposing the Pegasus scandal. She went on to play a victim card by indirectly claiming that journalists are treated like criminals. Moreover, she asked for the government to be held accountable for it.

Big vindication for @thewire_in that ran a series of exposes on how phones of journalists, politicians and others were hacked. Journalism is not a crime. It is public service. Governments must be held accountable. #Pegasus

— Rohini Singh (@rohini_sgh) October 27, 2021

SC bench led by CJI deserves to be commended for upholding right to privacy and telling truth to power. BUT will an ‘expert’ committee be able to get to bottom of Pegasus issue? Will Centre reveal all to a committee when they have revealed little to the nation so far? #Pegasus

Enthusiasts did not even read the documents

It was an extremely bizarre turn of events when the opposition and the liberals started to celebrate something which they thought Modi Government did not want to happen. Anyone who can understand basic English can simply go and read the affidavit filed by the government in the matter. The affidavit clearly mentions that the Modi government intended to form a committee on its own to investigate the scandal.

Abey Pappu. Modi Govt recommended Supreme Court to setup the committee to do investigation on #Pegasus

Pegasus Scandal- A manufactured issue to stay relevant by people losing credibility?

Pegasus is spy software that India bought from the Israeli company NSO for its national security. Recently, the controversy over its use has led to allegations by various journalists, lawyers, politicians, and influential people that the government is tapping their phones through this software. According to them, the government was continuously carrying out espionage through this software to crush its political opponents and was covering this mistake under the garb of national security.

Nine PILs were filed in the Supreme Court by various MPs, lawyers, and journalists ranging from Rajya Sabha MPs to editors of The Hindu newspaper stating that Pegasus carrying out large-scale espionage was a violation of Article 21 of the Constitution. This was described as a heinous attack on the freedom of individual privacy in the illusion of national security. The petitioners appealed to the Supreme Court to direct the government to make all confidential documents, files, and works related to the Pegasus issue public. The Supreme Court sought the government’s opinion on this issue.

Giving proof of its veracity, the Modi government, through an affidavit, outrightly rejected all these baseless allegations. In the affidavit given to the Supreme Court, the government criticised its opponents. The Modi government never raised any objection even on the formation of the inquiry committee. It was good that the Supreme Court itself, through its order, announced the formation of a 3-member committee, which will submit its report on all aspects related to Pegasus within 8 weeks.

Just because the committee is now being formed after Supreme Court’s order, it became a celebration for liberals in the country. It is also strange if we look at it from a different angle. On one of the rarest of rare occasions, the Supreme Court, government, and the opposition are on the same side of the coin and still, the opposition is busy celebrating the hypothetical loss of the government.

Before the 2019 election, it was Rafael, Rafael Rafael all the time. After the election, the topic vanished in the thin air. Then came Pegasus’s topic. For a while it was Pegasus, Pegasus all the time. It went away. Then came the coal shortage. India will go dark in two days. Now that has gone away in thin air.
