Navjot Singh Sidhu, the bitter arch-rival of Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh, was granted the President post of the state unit against Amarinder’s wishes. Amarinder Singh did not want Sidhu’s position in the party to be elevated owing to their polar views. The top brass of Congress had almost side-lined Amarinder to retain Gandhi puppet Sidhu and thus latter had the opportunity to oust Amarinder from Punjab Congress. But Sidhu squandered it because of his negligible political acumen.
Recently, Malvinder Singh Mali, who was installed as an adviser to Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned from his post for his controversial comments on Kashmir. He said in a statement, “I humbly submit that I withdraw my consent given for tendering suggestions to Navjot Singh Sidhu.”
Reportedly, the resignation comes days after Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had asked Sidhu to “rein in” his advisers, who made “atrocious” comments recently on sensitive issues like Kashmir and Pakistan.
Harish Rawat, AICC general secretary, who oversees Punjab affairs, had also stated that Sidhu’s two advisers needed to go.
Malvinder Singh had written a feature-length post on his Facebook wall and regurgitated his venom and hatred for India to describe Kashmir as a separate ‘country’ in his Facebook post. He wrote, “Kashmir belongs to Kashmiris. Going against the tenets of the UNO resolutions, India and Pakistan have illegally usurped Kashmir. If Kashmir was a part of India, then what was the need to have Articles 370 and 35-A. What was the special agreement with King Hari Singh? Tell people what were the terms of the agreement.”

Sidhu, on the other hand, was seen giving an ultimatum to high command on Friday that he will not spare anyone if not allowed to take decisions. He stated, “I have never made compromises. I have told the party high command that if I fulfill promises and deliver on the hopes of people, I will ensure the rule of the Congress in Punjab for the next 20 years. Par je tusi manu nirnay nahin lain deyonge taan main itt naal itt kharka du. (But if you do not allow me to take decisions, I will hit back strongly.) There is no point in being a decorated horse.”
Punjab in-charge Harish Rawat indirectly advised Sidhu to act in a good manner. He said, “I will meet Sonia ji and Rahul ji tomorrow to apprise them about all the matter. Punjab leaders should act accordingly so that their actions and statements do not get misinterpreted. It will harm the party, especially Punjab Congress.”
Ever since Sidhu was handed over the position of PCCC Chief, he has been gradually falling into the pit he dug himself in an attempt to silence Amarinder and become the next Chief Minister of the state. He had been attacking his own government in the state regarding multiple issues. Additionally, in an attempt to slam Amarinder, he reached an extent where he began praising BJP knowing that consequences could be against Punjab Congress.

However, Harish Rawat, in charge of Punjab affairs at the AICC, had recently said that the next year’s Punjab Assembly polls will be under the leadership of Amarinder Singh. Through the statement, Rawat claimed that there is no threat to the Amarinder-led government in Punjab and the party’s victory prospects in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Navjot Singh Sidhu, who had the opportunity to oust Amarinder to become the next Chief Minister of Punjab, failed to do so because of his antics. Amarinder Singh, who opted to wait patiently for Sidhu to activate his self-destruction mode, seems to be winning the race as of now.
