Bajrang Dal stops Welham Boys school’s Halal meat tender, which was forcing Hindu students to eat Halal

In what comes as another incident of Halal meat products being forced down the throat of Hindu and Sikh community, Bajrang Dal, last week (June 26) protested against Welham Boys School administration for releasing a tender and inviting bids for supplying Halal meat and poultry products.

Welham Boys School is a renowned boarding school of Dehradun. The school presently has a strength of around 450 plus students, out of which, the majority of students are Hindus. Thus, it doesn’t make sense to specifically invite bids for halal products. Opposing the move, several Bajrang Dal ‘karyakartas’ (workers) gathered outside the school and started raising slogans, condemning the school management.

Vikash Sharma, President, Bajrang Dal remarked that it was an insult to the faith of Hindu students and thus a complaint was filed at the Dalanwala police station.

“We have filed a complaint with the local police demanding action against the school management for insulting Hindu students and community. We demand strong action against management for fanning communal tension,” said Vikash Sharma.

Facing serious flak from all quarters, Mahesh Kandpal, the Vice Principal of the school tried to play down the controversy by calling it unnecessary.

“The controversy over meat is unnecessary. We floated a tender for the halal meat and next will float tender for the non-halal meat,” said Kandpal.

Meanwhile, the Digital arm of Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) lauded the efforts of Bajrang Dal by remarking that the organisation had curtailed a conspiracy.

“Bajrang Dal has put an end to the conspiracy of forcibly feeding Halal to Hindu students in Dehradun. Whenever Hindu faith will be attacked, Bajrang Dal will fight like this,” tweeted VHP.

Reported extensively by TFI, the minority community has monopolised the poultry industry by lobbying extensively for Halal products. To keep the meat industry on a neutral ground, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), the apex body for the promotion of agricultural export recently removed the word ‘Halal’ from its Red Meat Manual.

The decision was undertaken after Upword, a not-for-profit knowledge platform, raised the issue with the Ministry of Commerce of Industry’s Red Meat Manual which has prescribed ‘Halal’ meat for exports.

Religious certification of food products is becoming a big issue in India, as Islamists have been monopolising the regulation of non-vegetarian, as well as, vegetarian food through Halal certification. Even companies like Patanjali were forced to take Halal certification from various Muslim certification bodies, which charge hefty money ranging from 500 rupees to 5,000 rupees per food product.

Earlier, the Sikh consumers used to consume Jhatka meat only whereas Hindus used to have no problem consuming either Halal or Jhatka. However, with growing awareness over how the Islamists are trying to dominate the meat industry by imposing their methods on the majority community, aware consumers are now asking for Jhatka meat.

Once again, the presence of Bajrang Dal and its workers on the ground has proved why the Hindus need such an organisation with a strong cadre, despite the left-liberals and some sections of Hindus opposing its existence.
