Uttar Pradesh Police on Sunday (May 30) arrested a Muslim man named Abid Hawari under the anti-conversion law for entrapping three Hindu women into marriage by threat, deception and concealing his Muslim identity. Abid falsely pretended to be a Crime Branch inspector named Aditya Pratap Singh and lured his victims.
Reportedly, one of the Hindu wives lodged a complaint with the Indiranagar police which led to Abid’s arrest. In the complaint, the victim said that Abid first met her in 2015 while he was looking for a house for rent.
He introduced himself as Crime Branch inspector Aditya Pratap Singh. Abid told the Hindu woman that his posting was at Barabanki Crime Branch, Haidergarh, Sultanpur. She informed the police that he had contested panchayat elections from village Bakhra. To make his story more believable and emotional, Abid used to say that he was a widower and had a child from her first marriage.

However, after the woman uncovered his real identity, Hawari allegedly started pressuring her to get married. When the woman objected, he threatened to circulate intimate video and photographs of the two in compromising positions. The victim reluctantly got married to him in 2016.
“Victim claimed after she came to know about Abid’s real identity, he started pressuring her for ‘nikah’. When she objected, Abid threatened to circulate an objectionable video of her on social media. Later, she was forced to marry Abid,” said Sunil Kumar, ACP (Ghazipur), Lucknow Police.
Later, she came to know that Abid was already married & had 7 children. He again married a Hindu woman by Hindu rituals in February this year. Abid has been booked under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, 2021, and also charged with rape, extortion, remarrying during the lifetime of wife, criminal intimidation, and Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.
Some media reports have stated that Abid has 7 kids and as recently as February, he got married again. “When I went to Abid’s house in Azamgarh, I came to know that he was already married to a Muslim woman who is alive and has seven children. “I decided to snap all ties with him but Abid started harassing me. He forcibly realized rent from my tenants,” the victim was quoted as saying by TOI.
It is yet another instance where a Muslim man has been found using an alias of a different religious identity to coerce a Hindu woman. While the liberal cabal continues to turn a blind eye to the menace, such incidents continue to come up with alarming frequency, suggesting a clear motive and planned conspiracy behind it.
Only exemplary punishment will deter such crime.
