Sensing that BJP is riding to power in West Bengal after observing the trends of the first five phases of the polling, the entire left-liberal cabal of the country which was praying religiously for a defeat of BJP and more importantly, PM Narendra Modi has gone into a crisis averting mode. The coterie of intellectuals, influencers and journalists have now started asking for the postponement of the election in hushed tones by using the Coronavirus pandemic as a pretence.
Infamous for playing both sides, Shekhar Gupta’s The Print has already given the poll verdict in BJP’s favour. However, in doing so, the publication made sure it took a snide remark on the entire electoral process. Despite knowing well and truly that health is a state subject, the blame for Mamata’s incisiveness in dealing with the pandemic was pinned on the centre.

Netizen Harsh Madhusudan Gupta came forward and showed the mirror to Shekhar Gupta after his retweet by rebutting with few questions of his own. He tweeted, “I find this narrative troubling. 1. When dates were announced for state elections, this second wave was not on us. Can’t change dates now unilaterally. 2. If BJP had lobbied EC for less gatherings- only the EC can decide- many would say BJP has advantage in digital campaigning.”

Harsh hit the nail on the head when he remarked that unless EC deems the election process to be terminated or postponed, those not having stakes in the elections should stay put. “People with no stake in Bengal should avoid giving gratuitous suggestions selectively. One of Mamata’s alleged fan page shared a video of TV actor Nakuul Mehta where he was seen taking jibes at the central government. Meanwhile, hyper liberal online publication Newslaundry trained its guns on BJP MLA candidate from Tarakeshwar constituency, Swapan Dasgupta and questioned him for the election crowds amid the COVID-19 surge. Newslaundry might not have the journalistic ‘ethos’ to question Mamata or the left on a similar issue when Didi was conducting back to back rallies with her foot in the alleged ‘plaster’ but to gain some quick views, the publication made sure to upload the video.
The liberal gang has lost the plot and is now resorting to childish news stories and videos to twist the narrative. However, the BJP continues to march along in its quest to uproot TMC after its alleged atrocious 10 years reign of fear.
