Mamata Banerjee’s last ditch attempt to save her fortunes takes a dramatic turn and eyewitnesses and netizens call out her antics

The mainstream media is suddenly up on its toes, highlighting how West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee could have been a victim of a pre-planned political act of violence, perpetrated against her by the principal opposition force which has emerged in Bengal of late. While BJP workers continue to be indiscriminately killed in the poll-bound state even as the law-and-order machinery chooses to turn a blind eye to such acts of political violence, Mamata Banerjee being slightly injured due to a mere accident is turned into national news which must shake the conscience of all Indians.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged on Wednesday that she was attacked by “four-five men” who manhandled her during the election campaign in Nandigram, because of which she was injured in the left leg. India Today reported the incident to have happened around 6.15 pm when Mamata Banerjee was about to leave the Birulia area near Reyapara after praying at a local temple. She alleged that she was pushed by four-five men while she was trying to get into the car, following which she fell flat on her face.

Many believe that the TMC’s hyperventilation stems from their desperation to project themselves as the victims in Bengal, being hounded for standing up to the BJP’s unprecedented offensive in the poll-bound state. West Bengal loves drama, but Mamata Banerjee seems to have miscalculated her luck this time around. Close to nobody is impressed with her antics, and a sympathy wave in her favour is far from distant.

Bystanders and eyewitnesses, however, have junked theories of the incident having anything to do with politics. They insist that the mishap was an accident, which could have occurred with anyone. A student Suman Maity told news agency ANI, “A crowd had gathered to see the CM. When she was leaving, she fell down and got injured on her neck and leg. She was not pushed; people were only gathering to see her. The car was moving quite slowly.”

Another eyewitness Chitranjan Das told ANI, “I saw what happened. Mamata Banerjee came back from visiting temples and she was sitting in her car with the door open. There was a hoarding in front of the car which fell down on the door and hit Mamata Banerjee on her neck and knee. She was not hit or pushed.”

#WATCH Eyewitness Chitranjan Das who was present at Nandigram's Birulia where WB CM suffered injury says, "I was there, she (CM) was sitting inside her car but the door was open. The door closed after it touched a poster. Nobody pushed or hit…there was no one near the door." pic.twitter.com/2OeVHC0Vmy

Mamata Banerjee had earlier said, despite allegedly being in grave pain, “Not even one Police officer was present. 4-5 people intentionally manhandled me in presence of the public. No local cops were present during the program, not even the SP. It was definitely a conspiracy. There were no police officials for 4-5 hours in such huge public gathering.”

The BJP, meanwhile, has termed the entire incident as staged, even as Mamata Banerjee has been roasted grandly on social media for what people are referring to as a ‘stunt’ and a ‘political gimmick’. Even the Congress’ Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has said that such “tactics to gain sympathy” would not work this time. “Mamata Banerjee is the police minister of the state and if she is not safe then she should immediately resign from the post,” he said.

Doctors are closely monitoring Banerjee for the next 48 hours as she continues to complain of chest pain and breathlessness. Abhishek Banerjee had earlier jumped the gun and said, “Wait for medical reports. There is a grave injury. She’s suffered a crack. She’s gone for MRI.”

Mamata Banerjee’s desperation of losing the state to BJP has led to her placing her hopes on the incident as she has tried to garner as much media attention as possible by projecting the incident as a conspiracy against her. But one cannot overlook the fact that Suvendu Adhikari has emerged as a serious contender against her in West Bengal and battleground Nandigram, a stronghold of Adhikari, is a make it or break it challenge for her and it appears that her recent antics are a last-ditch attempt to save her fortunes.

Mamta is constantly taking big risks, which is a sign of desperation. First, she decided to fight from Nandigram, big risk, which when seemed to backfire, she decided to play this trick. If this trick also backfires, then she will have to pull another trick to justify this one. Old saying, you have to tell a 100 lies to hide one lie. She may have to pull a 100 tricks to hide one trick. This election campaign may become a quagmire for Mamta from which she may never emerge victorious.

Abhi toh first phase ki voting bhi nahin hui hai, agar Mamta abhi se yeh sab kar rahi hai to aage kya hoga….kehla hobey!!
