Encroach land and create pucca houses – the new strategy of so-called protesting farmers

It has been almost four months since the alleged farmers’ protests began near the Singhu, Tikri, and Ghazipur borders of Delhi, and despite the efforts of the Centre and the Supreme Court, the stubborn, so-called protesting ‘farmers’ are refusing to give up,  Now, if the ongoing protests and the violent agitations on 26 January were not enough, they have started encroaching land and building pucca houses in order to stretch the failed and dwindling protests against the farm laws.

As of now, the protesters had been staying in temporary accommodations at the three remaining protest sites – Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur, mostly tents built using tarpaulin on the ground or trolleys attached to their tractors. Now, according to some media reports and on-site photographs, these are being replaced with illegal, permanent brick structures, keeping the approaching summers in mind.

These permanent structures are located a few kilometres from the Singhu border, for which the masons have been reportedly called from Punjab. To quote Karamjit Singh, the media cell head of the anarchist Samyukta Kisan Morcha, “On Friday, farmer leaders from Punjab discussed constructing ‘pucca’ houses at Singhu border. The meeting revolved around ways to protect farmers at the border from the scorching summer. There are four houses in all being built at the border, but their number is likely to increase. All these houses will be two-storeyed.”

Karamjit further added, “Due to a large number of farmers at the border, these two-storey buildings are being and if the agitation is prolonged further, our preparations need to be stronger”.

Truth be told, the so-called farmers are turning restless day by day, with the number of dwindling supporters, and the receding media coverage on their fake protests, which lost a considerable amount of sympathy with the attack on the Red Fort. As such, in order to stay relevant, the anarchists are now encroaching government land to build pucca houses and permanently reside on the Delhi borders, only to cause further inconvenience to the public. Unless and until the government deals with such anarchists with an iron fist, this nuisance is only bound to increase, with disastrous consequences in store if the menace is not dealt with at the earliest.
