A crude bomb blast was reported on Friday at the Trinamool Congress’ office at Joypur in Bankura district of West Bengal. Joypur voted yesterday in the very first of the eight-phased polls scheduled for West Bengal. Close to three people were injured in the low-intensity blast. Although violence in West Bengal prior to and during elections has almost become a new normal, the recent blast seems to be an exception, for the simple fact that while the TMC has blamed the Congress and Left for the blast, the incumbent party has stayed mum on the prospect of the BJP being behind the blast at its office.
According to a report by India Today, the TMC has blamed the Congress-Left alliance for the blast. On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has slammed the TMC saying the blast took place inside the party’s office while its workers were “making bomb inside (the office)”. It must be remembered that for everything that is going wrong for the TMC, the ruling party is blaming the BJP. Even during a natural accident in which chief minister Mamata Banerjee was injured, the TMC and its supremo made it a point to relentlessly accuse the BJP of aiming to take Banerjee’s life.
Yet, in the recent case of a bomb blast in the TMC’s Joypur office, that the party has chosen to blame the Left and Congress alone is quite telling of how Mamata Banerjee and her party have come to fear the BJP. Banerjee’s Nandigram stunt proved to be a dud, following which she was forced to change her testimony as no one bought her theory of being attacked mercilessly by the saffron party. In fact, the people of Bengal began seeing right through the TMC’s pretentious act and consolidated their support for the BJP.
Therefore, the TMC seems to have realised that blaming the BJP for every instance when the party finds itself in an uncomfortable situation could be a strategy that could massively backfire all across the state. In fact, it might prove to be self-destructive in more ways than one. Hence, in order to not play with fire, the TMC seems to have decided to steer clear of it. That, in itself, proves how strong the BJP has grown in the state of West Bengal. Moreover, the data from the first phase of polling reveals that the TMC is facing an imminent wipe-out from the state.
