Earlier this month, one Rubel Sheikh was arrested by the Mumbai Police for allegedly being an illegal Bangladeshi immigrant. Rubel, 24, is said to have entered India without requisite documents in 2011 and went on to become the President of BJP’s North Mumbai Minority cell. You heard that right! An illegal Bangladeshi became the chief of BJP’s minority cell unit in no less than Mumbai. Now that the Mumbai Police has enthusiastically arrested a Bangladeshi national who happens to be a BJP worker, the saffron party has been forced to shore up defences for itself as the Maha Vikas Aghadi constituents mount an aggressive attack against it in Maharashtra.
However, here’s our advice to the Bharatiya Janata Party – offence is the best defence. It is now, more than ever, time to set an example and lead the way, while also setting the record straight. If proven to be a Bangladeshi national before requisite tribunals and courts – the Modi government must make it a point to deport the man to Bangladesh at the earliest. Of course, the word of Mumbai Police cannot be taken as the gospel, which is why judicial proceedings against the alleged Bangladeshi infiltrator must be initiated as soon as possible.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has made his, and the Modi government’s stand regarding Bangladeshi infiltrators abundantly clear. Now, it is time to walk the talk. And what better place to do that but from within the BJP? The Rubel Sheikh fiasco has provided the saffron party with an opportunity to set an example, and lead the path for the nation when it comes to getting rid of illegal infiltrators. Not only will the deportation of Sheikh lead to the Congress and its allies shutting up, but will also mentally prepare all infiltrators to get ready for similar action being initiated against them.
According to police officials, Bangladeshi national Rubel Sheikh is a resident of the Jasur district of Bowalia Village of Bangladesh. According to India Today, during a search of the accused’s house, police found a residence certificate of Malapota Gram Panchayat, birth certificate Hansakhali and school certificate of Nadia district– all of West Bengal. A team of police officials along with Sheikh went to all places which were shown in the documents. During verification, the cops found all the documents to be fake, with no history in the collectorate office as well.
Hitting out at the BJP over the arrest, Congress leader Sachin Sawant tweeted, “Is this BJP’s ‘Sangh Jihad’? Some BJP leaders are found smuggling Gaumata and some are proved to be ISI agents. Now one Rubel Sheikh, the president of the minority cell of BJP turned out to be Bangladeshi. Is there a provision given in the CAA act for BJP?”

Make no mistake, BJP will suffer a major loss of face if its government at the Centre fails to deport Rubel Sheikh back to Bangladesh. At a crucial juncture like this, the saffron party cannot afford to have an image created for itself which makes people believe that BJP leaders are subjected to a lenient version of the law. It is now time for the BJP to prove that its offensive against illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators is not just political rhetoric, but that the party actually works to achieve an infiltrator-free India.
