A close family friend of Sourav Ganguly and daughter of former BCCI chief and cricketer Jagmohan Dalmiya, Vaishali Dalmiya has now come out in the open to expose the ‘termite’ like behaviour of many elements within her party, who she claims are eating up the TMC from within.
Vaishali Dalmiya, TMC MLA from Bally constituency has raised concerns and her serious apprehensions about the state of affairs within the incumbent party, while alleging that some elements are making working for party workers and senior leaders difficult only due to their selfish interests. Dalmiya’s attack against certain elements in the party has come in the backdrop of an ongoing exodus of leaders from the TMC to the saffron party.
Speaking to India TV, Vaishali Dalmiya said that some workers in the party were hurting it like termites and also raised concerns about corruption within the party. Dalmiya raised serious concerns regarding the working of some individuals within the party after Laxmi Ratan Shukla, former cricketer and West Bengal Minister of State (MoS) for Sports and Youth Affairsresigned from Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet. Vaishali Dalmiya said that the man was doing a good job and that he was now being attacked by his own TMC colleagues.
While speaking to India Today, Dalmiya said, “I have only spoken out about people in my party who are not letting others work. And this has been going on for the last 3-4 years. There are people in the Trinamool Congress who do not have any love lost for party workers, who don’t love the people of the state, they just love themselves. They are termites who are eating up the party from within.”
On being asked whether she too would leave the TMC to join the BJP, Dalmiya gave a cryptic answer, saying, “I will continue to work for the people. I have been called non-political many times. So be it. I will continue to work with people, stand with them.”
According to Amar Ujala, Vaishali Dalmiya’s attack was primarily focussed on famous number cruncher Prashant Kishor, who has been roped in by the TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee to help her win the all-important assembly polls in the face of an unprecedented political offensive being launched by the BJP in the state since 2019. According to the report, Dalmiya criticised the working of Kishor and claimed that he was rewarding corrupt workers and leaders of the party with important posts.

For such an offensive to be launched by yet another TMC leader ahead of the state elections due in April-May this year is definitely not a good sign for the party, which in any case is being pulverised by important leaders quitting its ranks to join the BJP. Additionally, such an attack to be mounted by Vaishali Dalmiya, who is a close friend of Sourav Ganguly, will only further aggravate the worries of the ruling party. Could this be a sign that Dalmiya and her friend – Ganguly will be joining the saffron fold soon?
