It was a travesty for India that Hamid Ansari a closet Islamist had occupied the post of Vice President for 10 successive years – only the second person after Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan to achieve this feat. Despite the country bestowing Ansari with plenty of opportunities and honours, during the fag end of his tenure he claimed that Muslims are living in a state of unease and insecurity in India. Now, gearing up to promote his latest book, ‘By Many A Happy Accident’, the ex-Vice President was taken to the cleaners by Zee News’ Aman Chopra as the latter completely exposed Ansari.
Hamid Ansari received a huge shock when Zee News’ Aman Chopra came prepared with razor-sharp questions in what was expected to be a platform for Ansari to promote his book. Chopra took the bull by its horns and repeatedly prodded Ansari about why he claimed that Muslims are insecure in India during last day in office with Ansari trying his might to avoid the question and keep the discussion centred around his book. Chopra was not giving up so easily and kept on asking the same question which led to Ansari accepting the fact that he made such a tall statement based on “public perception”.

Had such a statement made by a Congress or an AIMIM leader, it wouldn’t have been surprising but such a tall claim from India’s Vice President himself was concerning. What’s even more shocking that Ansari made this statement purely on public perception as claimed by him. When Chopra asked if there are no facts to back Ansari’s ‘Muslims are insecure’ statement — a shell shocked Ansari could only say, “You are marvellous.”
When Chopra listed down the positions and the honours bestowed upon Ansari by India and despite the opportunities, Ansari on his last day of office, chose to claim that, “Muslims are insecure”, Ansari could only retort with “My Dear Son”.
Chopra then proceeded to rake up the issue of lynchings and made an underprepared Ansari contradict himself. After being asked whether lynchings are a reason why Muslims are unsafe in India, Ansari was then forced to accept that lynchings are a law and order issue.

Then, Chopra smartly asked, “Sir, lynching is not exclusive to Muslims, even Hindus are lynched, why are they not insecure?” A befuddled Ansari didn’t know what to answer and claimed that he is not sure whether Hindus are lynched or not. At this point Chopra didn’t hesitate to calling Ansari biased and then listed the names of Hindus in Kerala and West Bengal. Through this, Chopra attempts to drive down the fact that lynchings have nothing to do with religion and are indeed a law and order issue.
When Chopra says “lynching Dharm dekh kar thodi na hota hain”, the former diplomat retorts, “toh kya dekh kar hota hain?” The former VP got further entangled in the debate and chose to abruptly stand up and leave the interview.
During his tenure as the country’s Vice President, there were ample instances where Ansari didn’t have India’s best interests in mind and Chopra’s interview has only further exposed him.
