Recently, Amnesty International India has shut down after the Central government tightened the FCRA regulations, which will prove to be a major boon for India. Amnesty India under the garb of being a non-government organisation, indulged in various anti-national activities and had worked constantly to the detriment of India. However, India is not the only country where Amnesty International has run into troubled waters as the organisation has also had a difficult time with Russia, Congo and Israel, to name a few.
Much has been written about how Amnesty India worked to the detriment of India. While the left-liberals cry hoarse about the organisation shutting down and blame the Central government for it, the fact is not just India, but, various other countries have recognised the threat posed by Amnesty International.
Israel had discredited Amnesty long time back as the country criticised Amnesty’s documentation and reporting on the ongoing conflict between the Jewish nation and Palestine.
After Amnesty in 2009, published a report which condemned Israel’s treatment of Palestinian Authority Arabs, Israeli authorities hit out at the report as they claimed that the report carried half-baked research and accused Amnesty of a blatant bias on its part as Israel felt that the NGO underplayed the atrocities of extremist groups like Hamas against Israel. Amnesty has a clear soft spot for Palestinian terrorist groups and constantly berates Israel for the same.
Amnesty India, after shutting down its operations, blamed the Central government for organising a “witch hunt”, however, this wasn’t the first time Amnesty was playing the old trick. In 2000, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) criticised Amnesty for its annual report on the country which alleged that the government was running a campaign and witch-hunt to suppress dissent in the nation. It seems that Amnesty earns its bread and butter by spreading white lies of how various governments are stifling dissent.
While India has not explicitly banned Amnesty and instead has allowed the organisation to fall under its own weight due to its various wrongdoings, Russia was much more brutal as the Russian authorities on a November morning in 2016, sealed the organisation’s Moscow office without any prior warnings.
The Russian authorities cut off the electricity supply to the organisation’s office and also removed the locks and alarm system. The authorities also posted a notice which stated that the office is now “property of a city of the Russian Federation” and that nobody could enter it without being accompanied by a municipal official.
Such is the paranoia of Amnesty International that in 2005, the organisation claimed that the USA was a human rights offender. Amnesty International has a lot of skeletons in its closet and has been under the scanner across the globe. Amnesty India’s exit is a welcome one and a tight slap on anti-India forces.
