In a foot in the mouth moment for the Congress, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been spotted giving cold shoulder to an injured ABVP member following the JNU violence incident. The student, identified as Shivam Chaurasia, approached Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at the AIIMS and explained what had happened at the JNU campus on January 5, and how the left-leaning students had attacked the ABVP activists at JNU on a fateful day.
However, in the video of the incident tweeted by BJP IT cell head, Amit Malviya, Priyanka Gandhi can be seen ignoring the injured student and walking away, without even paying any heed to what he was saying. Malviya said, “How petty is Priyanka Vadra? Well, when Shivam Chaurasia, an ABVP activist, who was chased down by AISA and SFI goons, beaten mercilessly, endured 16 stitches, approached her at AIIMS, where she had turned up in ‘solidarity’, and explained what had happened, she turned cold!”

It is important to mention here that the ABVP had earlier released video proof of left-leaning students chasing and brutally assaulting Shivam Chaurasia. The student wing had tweeted, “This video is a clear proof of how students and karyaakartas were hounded and beaten by Left thugs in JNU. Shivam, an ABVP karyakarta, was chased & brutally attacked by the commie goons. This is what Left does to you if you stand for students’ rights.”

ABVP too has hit out at Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for her insensitive behaviour with the injured student. The student body tweeted, “Priyanka Gandhi gives cold shoulder to ABVP activist Shivam while he tries to tell her how leftist goons beat him up. It is saddening to see that @priyankagandhi’s empathy sees ideology before lending help! You have put humanity to shame, madam.”

Kratika Sen, a JNU student and ABVP activist, has also alleged Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of discriminating between the injured students who went to AIIMS for treatment after January 5 violence at the Central varsity. Sen told India Today TV, “Doctors in AIIMS discriminated against us. PG (Priyanka Gandhi) and her people also asked us first – from which wing we are?” She added, “When we were in AIIMS, few people came with Priyanka Gandhi. First they asked who all are admitted.”
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and the Congress have taken political discourse to a new low in the name of showing solidarity with injured students. The Gandhi scion went to AIIMS as a sympathetic gesture towards the injured students. However, on realising that the injured student was an ABVP activist, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra simply walked away. She was no longer concerned about student welfare and security.
Congress has shown that its sympathy and humanity is subject to political expediency and convenience.
In the name of showing solidarity with student politics, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has discriminated between injured students on the basis of political affiliation and ideology. Students, like any other social group, are mere political props for the Congress, and the Congress will empathise with them only if there is a lucrative political goal to pursue.
