In a saddening development, as many as 9 more infants have died in KotaтАЩs J K Lon Hospital. With this around 100 children have died in this hospital so far. the infants admitted in JK Lon Hospital of Kota were suffering from HIE or Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy [HIE], which is a serious condition where the brain ceases to function due to lack of proper oxygen supply to the brain, resulting in death.
Announcing this, Hospital Superintendent, Dr Suresh Dulara stated, тАЬAt least nine newborns and infants have died in J K Lon Hospital on December 30 and 31. The number of kidsтАЩ deaths in December has reached 100.тАЭ He added, тАЬOn December 30, four kids died and on December 31 five kids died. All of them died mainly due to low birth weight and birth weight hypothesis.тАЭ The nursing in-charge of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which specialises in looking after premature and sick newborns, has been replaced, Dr Dulara said.
Medical College Principal Dr Vijay Sardana also said that an order has been issued for installation of central oxygen supply line at the hospital and the work would be completed within the next 15 days. The direction was issued a day after a BJP parliamentary team comprising MPs Locket Chatterjee, Kanta Kardam and Jaskaur Meena visited the hospital and expressed concern over its infrastructure.
The saddening state of affairs of Rajasthan and apathy of the government could be understood as even the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) had served a show-cause notice to the Congress government in the state. “Pigs were found roaming inside the campus of the hospital,” its chairperson Priyank Kanoongo had said.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had also urged the CM Ashok Gehlot to take immediate action over the death of the children however the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, showing his apathy towards the death of 77 children in a hospital in this month,┬аsaid┬аthat, тАЬThis is not something new, these things keep happening in the state.тАЭ
The CM is trying to shield his government with numbers rather than taking immediate action, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that this year, the number is actually the lowest. тАЬEvery child death is unfortunate. But there have been 1,300 to 1,500 deaths in a year in the past. This year, the figure is 900. But why 900? Not one child should die. But there are many child deaths recorded every day in every hospital in the state and the country. ItтАЩs not new. Action is being taken,тАЭ the CM had asserted.
Neglecting the plight of the poor families who have lost their children due to incompetence of the Rajasthan government, the Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is instead preaching the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh on the plight of a toddler in Varanasi separated from her parents. BSP supremo Mayawati has slammed the Congress leader for not paying heed to the Kota hospital tragedy in the Congress-ruled Rajasthan.
Priyanka Vadra had also attacked the Yogi Adityanath government over the death of a child reportedly due to malnutrition, alleging that under the BJP rule there was just “show off” development. Taking to Twitter, she posted a media report which claimed that a baby girl died in Uttar Pradesh due to malnutrition. She also attacked CM Yogi Adityanath for separating a child from his family.

Reacting to the hypocrisy of Priyanka, BSP chief Mayawati slammed Priyanka and said, “It is very sad that the Congress General Secretary is keeping mum on the deaths of 100 children in the Kota hospital. It would have been better if like Uttar Pradesh, she would have met the mothers of the infants who have died in the hospital, due to the apathy of the government of her party in the state.тАЭ She added, “If the Congress General Secretary does not go and meet the Kota families who are affected by the tragedy, then her outreach towards victims in Uttar Pradesh would be considered political opportunism, from which the public of Uttar Pradesh is advised to stay alert.”
Mayawati further said that the attitude of the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan was condemnable as it has mismanaged the situation of the 100 children deaths in Kota and still remains irresponsible and unsympathetic to the situation.

Notably, Priyanka has been on a campaign to defame the Yogi Adityanath government. Last week she even invited the wrath of the Akhada Parishad for personally attacking the CM for wearing тАШBhagwaтАЩ. She is desperately trying to remain relevant in the state politics however her actions always end up exposing her political naivety. Her silence over the death of children in a state ruled by her party is deplorable as she had even visited the houses of the anti-CAA protestors.
