Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has been in the news quite often. Post BJP’s massive electoral victory in the state, which led to the collapse of the Communist rule, the media had launched a concerted misinformation campaign against the man. While every negative story which the media spins against Biplab Deb is covered widely, it does next to negligible reportage on the positive steps taken by him and his government.
Biplab Deb has now announced on Facebook that he would be undertaking a new weekly endeavour. Yesterday, he paid a surprise, and an absolutely random visit to one Aparna Chowdhury’s household in Dhaleswar locality of Agartala, Tripura. He spent substantial amount of time with the family of Aparna Chowdhury and also had lunch at her place.
Deb said, “Paid a surprise Visit to senior citizen Smt. Aparna Chowdhury’s house in Dhaleshwar, #Agartala today and had lunch. I am overwhelmed by their love and hospitality.
Happy to feed the Gaumatas at their residence, Gaushalas are rarely seen in cities these days.
From today onwards every sunday I will visit common people’s house in #Tripura randomly.
It feels great to be among the beloved people of our State. I will urge other leaders and Ministers to try the same and connect with people.”
Being the unapologetic man that he is, Biplab Deb did not shy away from pampering the cows at the senior citizen’s residence. Further stating that Gaushalas are rarely seen in cities these days, Deb yet again refused to be cowed down by the fact that the media might spin a negative story off this act as well.
Had this been an irregular and PR-styled exercise, Deb would not have announced the continuity of it every Sunday. Being a man packed with a tight schedule, the very fact that he has decided to spend his Sundays with the common people too, speaks volumes about him. Biplab Deb further revealed that all such weekly visits will be completely random in nature and will come as a surprise. He also did not differentiate with the people he was visiting, and called them his ‘own family’. He further stated that he had lunch with his ‘family members’.

Building a connect with the common people on ground is a pre-requisite to good governance. Biplab Kumar’s last mile policies and welfare programs would not be successful unless the people connect with the man and share a collective vision for the development of the state. After assuming office, Deb has not looked back. He has taken upon himself to uplift the state of Tripura and develop it at a fast pace. As much as development is on the focus, cleanliness too has been given topmost priority by his government. For the purpose of cleaning the state, Deb recently decided to donate his six-month salary towards the ‘Swacchata He Sewa’ campaign. He is also committed to cleaning the state from the menace of drugs.
Unlike other Chief Ministers in the country who made tall promises on the same issue, Deb has been working hard and ensuring results on the same, without making any noise. While others would shy away from taking on their political opponents post an election victory, Deb ensured that he took steps in order to do what was rightfully needed to be done. CPM had illegal offices set up across the state of Tripura. Deb allowed the demolition of all such illegal occupations by the Left.
In a recent interview to TFIPOST’s founder- Atul Mishra, Biplab Deb shared his vision and dream of a prosperous Tripura, and intricately explained how he aimed to do so.
Biplab Deb has set an example for other Chief Ministers across India to follow. In a state like Tripura, which has for long faced the ill-governance of the Left, building a personal connect with the people becomes necessary. Biplab Deb has understood that the people are tired of pompous and arrogant politicians and now want representatives who are down to earth and humble.
