The comedian, fancy-dress enthusiast and Candian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has dropped in the towel, at least this is what can be inferred from his rather low and meek statements ahead of the polls in the second largest country of the world by size.
Speaking to reporters in the town of Whitby, east of Toronto Trudeau said, “There is a chance there could be a Conservative government and that would mean cuts.” He further went on to say, “I’m not taking any vote for granted. I know Canadians are reflecting on the kind of future they want.” Though Trudeau said that he was fighting for every single vote but his declining popularity marred by the corruption scandals has made him concede the defeat well in advance.
Polls show Trudeau’s Liberals are locked in a tie with the opposition Conservatives ahead of the vote on Monday and will not be able to garner enough votes for a majority.
Justin Trudeau has campaigned aggressively in Ontario which is Canada’s most populous province, which accounts for 108 of the 338 seats in the House of Commons. Trudeau’s Liberals hold 76 of those seats and cannot afford to lose them in the upcoming poll.
One of the Liberal legislator Celina Caesar-Chavannes who used to hold the Whitby seat quit in March after what she said was a clash with Trudeau over his leadership style. Two prominent female cabinet ministers had also resigned from Trudeau’s cabinet following a corruption scandal over what they saw as inappropriate pressure from Trudeau to drop a corruption trial against a construction firm (SNC-Lavalin Group).
It has been time and again reported that Trudeau is not a strong leader and that he lacks the spine to take major policy decisions. The SNC-Lavalin Group affair damaged his credibility as a feminist after the two ministers quit. Women voters had heavily favoured him in the 2015 election that brought him to power.
Trudeau’s trip to India in February 2018 was a disaster, and this is a common fact known to all Indians. However, it also became a poll plank issue in Canada. From interacting with convicted Khalistani terrorists to wearing cringy attires, Trudeau did not leave any stone unturned to embarrass himself and ruin his relations with India.
His toxic love for Khalistani extremists is so profound that his delegation consisted of Jaspal Atwal – a convicted assassin and former Sikh terrorist who tried to assassinate the visiting Punjabi cabinet minister, Malkiat Singh Sidhu, on Vancouver Island in 1987.
Prime Minister Modi did not meet Trudeau until the 5th day of his visit and UP CM Yogi Adityanath didn’t even travel with Trudeau upon the latter’s visit to Taj Mahal where he was received by district officials.
Royally snubbed by the Narendra Modi government for his links with Khalistanis, Justin Trudeau is struggling to brush the debacle under the carpet to save his image in Canada and is staring at an embarrassing defeat which will mark a remarkable fall from grace.
Trudeau’s former principle secretary, Gerry Butts, blaming the Indian government for Trudeau’s disastrous trip, stated, “We walked into a buzzsaw — (Narendra) Modi and his government were out to screw us and were throwing tacks under our tires to help Canadian conservatives, who did a good job of embarrassing us.”
As if all this was not enough, the Canadian Prime Minsiter has been at the receiving end of criticism from all quarters as pictures of himself in his youth, wearing ‘black-face’ to costume parties surfaced. It has dragged the issue of racism back into the forefront of Canadian politics, and all Trudeau has been doing is apologising profusely about the pictures.
The global champions of pseudo-liberalism, pseudo-secularism and radical Islamism like Justin Trudeau try to become ‘politically correct’ in front of media electorates only to win elections. Trudeau’s 2015 win was a result of an elaborate PR strategy and at best can be defined as a fluke victory. Trudeau has failed miserably on both national and foreign affairs front, which are both intrinsic to a country’s leader and he should be prepared for a drubbing in the upcoming elections. He might be the global poster-boy of liberal values in front of the media but it takes huge courage and administrative skills to run a country.
