Imran Khan yesterday broke the internet as he shamelessly disregarded diplomatic protocol while at the SCO summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Imran Khan is known to be a notoriously arrogant man with a false sense of self-worth. The irony lies bare for all to see through as the pretentious mask of pride falls from Imran Khan’s face and he is reduced to a laughing spectacle by the end of the day. How can anyone, in the right state of their mind be proud to represent a broke and failed nation like Pakistan?
The sequence of events at the SCO Summit yesterday were as follows:
- The Heads of States of participating nations walk in for the opening ceremony of the SCO summit.
- As names of various heads are announced and they enter the hall packed with diplomats and delegates, Imran Khan walks in.
- Imran Khan does not wait for his introduction and walks directly to his seat and sits down.
- Imran Khan is introduced after he takes his seat. Perhaps realizing his folly, he briefly stands, acknowledges the greetings and again sits down, while all other heads of states, including PM Modi and President Putin and Chinese President continue standing.
Protocol, as well as basic human decency, demands that when any head of state enters a hall of people, everyone stands to acknowledge their presence. Clearly, nobody taught Imran Khan basic diplomatic protocols and the know-how to carry oneself at summits while representing his country, even if it is a failed state. Khan very often brags about him being a Pathan (which is also a subject of debate). Perhaps, Imran Khan thought he would be able to impress world leaders by an extravagant show of ego and arrogance, only to be reduced to a laughing stock eventually.
This is not the first time when Imran Khan has offended people and broken protocol. Earlier this month, at the OIC summit in Saudi Arabia, Imran invited not just the wrath of the Saudis, but also his fellow Pakistanis for disrespecting Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz. Imran Khan, in a video, was seen approaching the Saudi king who had an interpreter by his side. The two has a very brief exchange and even as the interpreter was translating Khan’s words to the King, Imran simply uncourteously walked away. What followed was a huge backlash by the Saudi citizens who considered this act of Khan a blatant disrespect towards their King. Even Pakistanis were shocked by this behavior of their Prime Minister.
Whether Imran Khan suffers from an inflated ego or has a superiority complex of crazy proportions, we now know why he is called ‘Im the Dim’.
