I write to condole for your loss and share certain instances which may help you introspect better and help alleviate your profound grief which you have suffered from the recent Lok Sabha results. In advance, I seek an apology from you as there are very good chances that you may find me crude and crass at certain places. Trust me, it is for your own good.
The republic of India has spoken. And that too in a loud, clear and a firm voice – “Jai Shri Ram”. Or as they chanted in Bengal – “Joy Shri Ram”. What? Too soon, this? Oh My God! Your worst possible fears has finally come true! The writing on that wall which you were showing to all those illiterates who voted for the saffron party is now for everybody to read with their bleeding eyes. Bleeding because “An eye for an eye” by the G.B. Shaw is never out of context. Well, nor is the mandate of the people. When shall you comprehend that writing on the wall which says, “This is New India. You are irrelevant”.
Your condition is congruent to the symptoms of Galileo complex – Your prediction, deduction, theory, postulation, principle, agenda, doctrine etc. has not yet come true and in the given logic of things it may never, but you still passionately believe in it despite being out rightly rejected by the masses or what you may refer to as the church (read temple) following bigots. We both are now stuck in a quandary – when does this stop? I and a short of a billion others refuse to accept your prophecy. To be honest, we cannot be least bothered. You are soon getting a status of an ostrich in the sand. Either you are waiting to be martyred by some extra frustrated soul in the market thereby vindicating your prophecy or there might be a slight chance that some sense might have started to dawn upon you after the eve of the election results. I think the former still prevails.
Looking at your conduct in general, it reminds me of that bunch of scholars during school days who would score inadequately less in the board exams and blame the out-of-syllabus-questions, disturbance while taking the exams, strict marking of the answer sheets, hardest possible luck, not-allowed-to-copy-while-others-could and every other possible excuse that one could imagine; yet, refusing to accept that the limited questions which you mugged up, never found a place in your question paper. While you were busy mugging up secularism, the question came on Hindutva. You panicked and could not answer. Your fear got the better of you. Had you not been rude and arrogant to more than half of the class who spoke in Hindi or any language other than English, they could have given you an understanding of what Hindutva is. They would have told you, it’s not much different – Secularism and Hindutva. You would’ve had enough pointers to pass with flying colours. Had you paid even a little attention to the not-so-flashy kid who was trying to answer that question on Hindutva in his broken English, things would not have gotten that bad. But your high-headed- English-speaking arrogance kept you away long enough from the fundamentals of this concept. You kept only one Hindi speaking kid in your group, named, Ravish. You took him in the group because of improving your “diversity” credentials while he was busy being grateful as your ideological toadie to the other kids who were rather pushed away due to your “Tharoorian” eloquence. You also ostracized Arnab because he mingled well with the Hindi speaking kids and openly challenged your dominance in English – thereby declaring him as “Over smart” in your dictionary. No point in now sulking in the corner when the whole world around you is rejoicing. Learn and move on.
Acceptance and humility has never harmed anyone. Sure, you can be a sceptic. You can be a critic. But please let it not blur your vision with viciousness and disdain. You can also be an idealist. Sure, why not, it is still a free country, remember? The problem though lies with your convenience to be an idealist. Had you been an idealist since the time you started out, who knows you probably might still have an impact with your skepticism. Unfortunately, people have seen through this farce of idealism that you have long borne the torch for. Look around, it is not dark anymore.
I would thus end this letter with the great words of a songwriter and hope you may find the light within.
