The controversial Congress’ head of the social media wing, Divya Spandana seems to have deleted her Twitter account on Sunday, two days after she had congratulated Nirmala Sitharaman on being given the post of finance minister. Her Instagram account also appeared to have been deleted however she is still active on Facebook.
Divya Spandana’s last tweet read, “Congratulations @nsitharaman on taking charge of a portfolio that was only last held by another woman, Indira Gandhiji in 1970 – makes us womenfolk proud! The GDP not looking great, I’m sure you will do your best to revive the economy. You have our support. Best wishes.”
After her sudden disappearance from top social media platforms, speculations over reasons for her move are ripe. In the run-up to the general elections, Divya Spandana or otherwise known as Ramya was under fire from twitteratis over her caustic tweets and attempts at denigrating Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Going by this tweet, it is certain that Divya Spandana has a really diverse profile when it comes to tweeting against anything that is even remotely pro-Modi. From sharing links of dubious websites like IndiaScoops to prove that Rafale is a scam, to referring to PM Modi as a ‘bird dropping’, Divya Spandana has set the standards of political discourse to an abysmal low.
Earlier for this controversial tweet, a case had been registered against her under Section 67 of The Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008 and Section 124A 9sedition) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) based on a complaint filed by lawyer and activist Syed Rizwan Ahmad.
She was also caught encouraging her party workers to create more and more fake accounts on social media. Issuing such irresponsible direction is bizarre and unethical.

She was also under fire after she had shared a morphed image of Prime Minister Modi.
According to ANI, her Twitter account does not display any tweets and her Twitter bio does not mention her as head of social media. There is also ambiguity on whether she is still part of the social media team. Divya Spandana has been under fire for giving the Congress campaign on social media a toxic turn, therefore speculations over her dismissal from the post are also making rounds. Congress in this general election has posted a dismal performance with winning just 52 seats. If she has been sacked, the reasons for this are no mystery. Divya Spandana had become a liability for the Congress.
According to ANI, there is no official confirmation from either the Congress party or Spandana herself. Word is out that Spandana has parted ways from the team, according to a source.
The Congress campaign in the general elections has evidently been one of the most negative political campaigns. Presence of social media managers like Divya Spandana in the Congress party is a testimony of the fact that the party has lost its dignity and it looks like the party has finally realized their mistake and sacked her in order to save face. Her inactivity on Twitter coupled with the removal of her bio points towards the fact that Congress has finally fired its controversial and ineffective IT chief. If one goes through her Twitter activity, it is full of crass, vulgar and demeaning tweet against PM Modi, BJP and its supporters.
Divya Spandana has been an abject failure as head of social media wing of the Congress. Her activities did more damage to the Congress party and provided many opportunities to the BJP to launch a blistering attack against the Congress. Divya Spandana failed in her capacity as damage-control manager and presenting Rahul Gandhi in a positive light, no matter how hard the task is.
