Dear Ravish ji,
I hope you are hale and hearty and in the prime of your health and work at NDTV is going well. I recently saw one of your videos, where you had appealed to us to stop watching television for the next two months. You even appealed to your fellow opponents to stop spreading war hysteria in the name of news coverage.
In an age where the media is ready to stoop to any level for a few seconds of instant popularity, your suggestion is no doubt like a whiff of fresh air. However, being an inquisitive student, I have a few unsolved questions in my mind, and going by your current views, I believe that you have the apt intellect to answer my humble questions.
Ravish ji, you say that Indians should not watch TV for the upcoming 2 and a half months. Given that you’re one of the prominent faces of the ‘iconic’ NDTV channel, is NDTV a part of this campaign? Is this the official policy of NDTV?
If yes, well and good for you and your channel. But if this is not the situation, why are you advocating such a drastic step? In today’s environment, TV is one of the most popular information mediums that caters to millions of people in a span of minutes. By advocating a boycott of the same, aren’t you imposing your thoughts unjustly on millions of Indians? Are we that dumb? If yes, we have the right to know what makes your voice and only your voice the voice of reason.
Moreover, what kind of authority do you have over us? Aren’t you the one who praised Caravan magazine for peddling casteist propaganda about the martyrs of the Pulwama attack?
We’re not dumb enough to have forgotten your hysteria over being criticized by a common man, just because he caught you violating traffic rules. We haven’t forgotten your tacit support for the open threats levied by an arrogant brat who was once the CM of Uttar Pradesh, just because a journalist disagreed with his tactics. So why are you acting as the nation’s conscience keeper? Have you no shame?
I don’t expect an apology from you, Ravish ji. But in my own humble words, I wish to make this clear: we won’t confound your propaganda for authentic journalism anymore. We hope that sanity is restored to you and you realise the error of your ways.
Yours Sincerely,
A Frustrated Indian
