On Monday, Swaraj India President, Yogendra Yadav, lashed out at the intent of the United India Rally and said that the rally was nothing but a joke. Taking a jibe at the united opposition, former AAP leader said that ‘Mahagathbandhan’ gives no hope and is just a gathering of aimless, agenda-less, “hollow people” with no ideology. The anti-Modi stance is the only common thing among the members of the Mahagathbandhan, he further added.
Further criticizing the grand alliance, Yadav claimed that those who are portraying themselves as anti-BJP or anti-Modi are equally anti-democracy and corrupt. Talking to Press Trust of India (PTI), Yogendra Yadav added, “There was a huge gathering (in Kolkata). But, where is the ideology? What is your agenda? There was no discussion on that. You had no talks on the problems the farmers are facing and on unemployment. I believe this coalition lacks vision”.
Not only that, the activist politician one-by-one exposed the hypocrisy of the entire opposition and members of ‘Thugbandhan’. Unveiling the rowdyism and anarchy of Mamata Banerjee in Bengal, Swaraj India President said, “They are saying that Narendra Modi is anti-democracy, but what about (West Bengal Chief Minister) Mamata Banerjee? She is also the same. She has not allowed the panchayat elections to take place peacefully. She does not allow the opposition to host any rally here. You are carrying out rowdyism in your state”.
Lashing out on the issue of corruption and exposing the sanctimoniousness of opposition leaders, Yadav also took dig at the leaders of SP, BSP, and NCP adding, “Sharad Pawar (NCP leader), Akhilesh Yadav (SP chief) and Mayawati (BSP chief) all are claiming of saving the country from corruption. This is a big joke. This grand alliance is full of hollow people”. The politician turned activist further claimed that Mahagathbandhan is only an opposition, not an alternative to the Modi government.
For once, Yadav is absolutely right. Besides the palpable hatred for PM Modi, there is nothing in common with the leaders and their respective bases. This was evident even in the rally where people left midway because they could neither understand many of the leaders nor they could relate to their rhetoric.
Interestingly, on the ‘auspicious eve’ of the brigade rally of Mamata Banerjee, all the parties announced the so-called “death-bell” for the BJP. Most of the parties, including Mamata Banerjee herself, anticipated a huge crowd. But the truth was far away from reality. TMC leaders and Mamata Banerjee anticipated a crowd of 50 lakh people; the actual number was less than 20% of what they expected. No matter whatever TMC and Mamata Banerjee claim, political pundits will say this rally in Kolkata was a big flop. Even the Mahagathbandhan politicians who shared the stage know that their presence has actually faded away.
Yogendra Yadav is not the only one to raise the doubt on the intentions of the Mahagathbandhan. Earlier, SP and BSP announced their separate alliance and left the Congress party out of it. Some media reports also speculated that opposition parties of the BJP in Bihar too are thinking of their separate alliance. Such reports clearly reflect the fact that the days of the grand alliance will only be worsening by the time goes.
