On Sunday, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan took a jibe at much-hyped grand-alliance of opposition parties as he termed it as “bina dulhe ki baraat” (a wedding procession without the groom). Shivraj added that opposition parties don’t have a leader who can match the calibre of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In an interview to PTI, Chouhan said, “Opposition unity is nothing but a ‘bina dulhe ki barat, iska koi neta nahin hai’ (a wedding procession with the groom, they don’t have a leader). They are coming together for their survival.”
Given the number of PM aspirants that have emerged from the Mahagathbandhan so far, Chouhan could have not been more accurate in his description. Mahagathbandhan is nothing but coming together of a bunch of hypocrites, opportunist and desperadoes shilling their own agenda under an umbrella that has pretty sizeable holes.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan who has recently been appointed as the BJP’s vice president asserted that under the PM Modi’s leadership, the BJP would win the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. According to India.com, Chouhan expressed that all the BJP leaders are standing behind PM Modi in order to ensure the party’s victory. He said, “There is no leader in the Opposition who can match Modiji. We all are standing behind him and will win this election. Today, Modiji is not only my leader but the leader of the entire country.
Earlier also, he had attacked the so-called Mahagathbandhan. In his address at Vijay Sankalp rally at Ramlila Maidan, Chouhan had said, “Fearing defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, they all are coming together after looking at the massive support towards Modi.” In his address, he had also attacked the opposition for not being able to decide on a prime ministerial candidate. Chouhan went on to add, “The opposition is unable to decide their candidate, as everyone has a different opinion on it. In the south, people want Rahul Gandhi’s government while Bengal wants Mamata Banerjee as Prime Minister whereas in Uttar Pradesh, people want Mayawati. There is no decision.”
With Prime Minister Modi cementing his place as the only pan-India leader capable of leading the country, the entire opposition has been pinning all its hopes on a ‘grand coalition’ with a common motive of stopping PM Modi from returning to power. However, the grand alliance due to its very nature seems to be a utopian thought. It is not only marked by inherent rifts and ego clashes but there are a number of contenders who want to lead the coalition by outdoing others. Yet, there is no single leader capable of matching PM Modi’s persona and popularity.
Recently Shivraj Singh Chouhan had asserted, “Don’t think mama has become weak. I promise you that we will win at least 27 seats, as we did in 2014, out of the 29 Lok Sabha seats, in the coming elections.” After the results of Madhya Pradesh state assembly elections, he has set himself on a tour across the state to boost the morale of the BJP workers ahead of crucial 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Chouhan has increased his public appearance and now he frequently interacts with common people of the state. Shivraj Singh is leaving no stone unturned in order to gain the faith of the people of Madhya Pradesh ahead of the crucial 2019 Lok Sabha elections, and so far he has been successful in his pursuit.
