Bankruptcy is a pitiable state of affairs, but what any political party fears more is the bankruptcy of ideas. What if one does not have a point to attack its opposition, what do you do then? You take a simple matter, raise it time and again in order to hide the bankruptcy of ideas you have. That sums up the whole game of Congress in the present time with less than a year to go for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Former Prime Minister and Congress leader Manmohan Singh yesterday tried to attack the central government led by PM Modi for hurting national interests. The former PM was attending a function held in New Delhi, the event was organised to confer the Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award on the former West Bengal governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi. Apart from the aforementioned personalities the program was also attended by Congress leader and UPA Chief Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and former Union Minister Karan Singh. Mr. Singh said that the people need to do find out how the “unsavoury trends” of growing intolerance and violent crimes are hurting the interests of the country. He also termed these as a curse on the “objectives enshrined in our magnificent Constitution”. While Sonia Gandhi too spoke about how there is an urgent need to fight forces of “divisiveness, hate and bigotry” which are present in the country.
Manmohan Singh went on to add, “Another cause for solemn reflection today is some disturbing trends that our country has been witnessing over the past few years. Those unsavoury trends of growing intolerance, communal polarization, growing incidence of violent crimes propelled by hatred of certain groups and of mobs taking the law in their own hands can only harm the national interests of our country”.
Statements like these coming with less than a year to go for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections signify that the Congress is indeed at a loss of points to target PM Modi led BJP government. One just needs to compare PM Modi’s last year in this term with the last year of Manmohan Singh led UPA II to recognise the difference between the two parties. While the last year of Manmohan Singh’s rule had been marred with accusations of various scams such as Commonwealth Games scam, 2G scam and Coalgate. There also had been allegations that the government had failed to take a good decision and corrective steps on issues such as the Food Security Bill, communal violence bill and unemployment in the country. The BJP and PM Modi had gotten enough ammunition to attack the Congress regime which led to its downfall in 2014.
In complete contrast to this, Congress today has just intolerance, communalism and other similar charges to levy on the BJP led by PM Modi. Manmohan Singh seems to be the latest entrant in the list of Congress leaders who have spoken up about this issue. Mr. Singh must have been roped in by Sonia Gandhi and the Congress to gain sympathy from the public. It has become important for the Congress to rope in faces now considering Rahul Gandhi has drastically failed at connecting with the public. There was a time post the 2014 debacle when Manmohan Singh suddenly was nowhere to be found, today he is again seen accompanying Sonia Gandhi while Rahul Gandhi was absent from the scene. The leftist cabal with all the media houses acting as an extended branch of the opposition, the Congress and the left have failed to point out inaccuracies in the work done under PM Modi rule. Statements like these therefore could be termed as the biggest achievement of PM Modi and his leadership skills for it proves that the Congress is left with no solid proof to attack them with.
